How much did you tip your movers? Ours asked for more.
We just moved from the city to Huntington. 9:30-5pm, 5 guys, final bill of $1550. My husband gave them $1700, so $30 a guy I guess for tip. The main guy made a face and said it's customary to tip $60/guy. So we gave them another $100. We thought we were being generous in the first place but I guess not? What is customary? $250 just seems like a lot of money to tip, and we felt fleeced at the end of the day.

I am not sure what is customary, (looking at the other posts people said 20-50) but if someone told me they expected more, I would be so annoyed. That is so rude!

Ditto. I would not have tipped more - on the other hand if I recall correctly - I did give $20 a guy, but still the audacity of them asking would have really annoyed me to no end. There were 6 guys.

That's really nervy! We gave 30/guy. We had four guys (only paid for three though we tipped them all). They were with is from 8-2:30

Ha! oWhen we moved we had 3 guys and one of the guys said to the other guy "she knows we go by tips"  and I was like "mm Hmmm" so I told my DH and we were originally going to give $30 but gave $50...never moved before either.

We used Ken's Moving. And it's a shame because we were really happy with them until that. Who does that??!!
We used them too!!! Oh and they called us later that day and said they charged us incorrectly for the travel back which was $100 but charged us $50...I was kind of annoyed, we took care of the guys and all. I have to say they were good and quick but those 2 things turned me off.

We used Ken's Moving too. We gave for three guys, $50 an guy. The reason we did that was bc the OWNER when he gave us a quote- Said point blank my Guys really work for the TIPS, so you need to tip the movers. Which we did think was a little tacky to say.

Um NO - I have always tipped about $20-30 a guy depending on the job that they did - I would have flipped if asked for MORE.

Wow, note to self, never use Ken's moving company. The owner should be compensating his workers and what they get from tips is an EXTRA bonus. I would be livid if I was the owner and hearing that my employees were telling people what to tip them.

we moved last weekend, and tipped $50/guy for the 4 guys. I would have been really annoyed if they complained or asked for more!

I used Moving Right Along- I felt the same way, we really liked the job they did but that was pretty rude... turned me off

I used Kens and went by the "suggested rate" on the info paper. We had 5 guys, who worked nonstop. It was hard work...worked from 745am to 700pm. We tipped them $100 each, based on the suggested rate. We felt they seriously deserved it and we were glad to give it.

Am I correct is saying you dont HAVE to give any tips at all? Is it in the contract or anything? Honestly if someone said something that rude to me I would most likely turn around, say thank you and leave. I wouldnt give another penny more. You give what YOU want to give.

My sister used them too and I posted about them and the tips a few weeks ago. I found that to be disgusting. They didn't even say thank you when my sister tipped them $50 per guy. Horrible!

Do you remember which guys you had? We moved twice very recently (nightmare!) and used them both times. For the first move, I had put my clothes in garbage bags and we were going to take it ourselves but then the head guy offered to take it...but reminded us when he did that they work on tips. We were going to give 25/guy and gave 30 instead. On the second move we automatically gave 30. Don't get me wrong, I know they are hard workers and tipping is customary but also remember that it is in your pocket or theirs - you will likely never see them again - and especially with that in mind I don't think anyone should be bullied into giving more.
This kinda happened to us yesterday but in a different capacity. We belong to a beach club and you're supposed to tip the cabana boys when they do something for you AND at the end of the summer. Now some people have the guys running all over the place for their kids and others like us who just ask for a beach chair every now and again. So yesterday one of the cabana boys makes a point of telling us it is his last day. We took that as 'give me money'. It wasn't said in passing either it was 'hey guys tomorrow is my last day. I can't believe it!' it made us very uncomfortable.

I wanted so badly to call the owner and complain, and would love to send him this thread. But to be honest I didn't want them coming and retaliating, knowing where we live. They were pretty intimating guys, and all 5 guys were sitting around my kitchen table when my husband walked in to pay them. He even joked to them that he felt like he was walking into a mob meeting. He said it felt like a shake down. Which it basically was.

Yeah we've moved a bunch and these guys were definitely the crudest guys we've had. tattoos on their face, one wearing a shirt with a play on words off a Coke slogan substituting the word c o c k, etc. I don't know, maybe I'm a prude...tattoos fine, suit yourself, but a shirt with the word c o c k? Show some respect.

We used them for the move, and while they did a good job moving, not damaging, they were a bit slimy and we are big tippers in general and DH ended up giving enough but they did make a point to keep saying we hope you treat us well in the end..it was just wrong IMO
