How much do you tip the mailman?
Just curious what everyone gives? We usually give a $25.00 gift card.

I don't 
But honestly we have someone new delivering our mail every other week it seems and to be honest I don't see why I should tip someone for doing their JOB.
My hubby is a cop- he is providing a service too- he doesn't get tips.
I just don't get where we draw the line on who should be tipped and who shouldn't....

Not to hijack, but what do you do if you have different mail carriers every few days. I don;t know who the "main" one is  What day do you give the gift for?

I agree, its tough to draw the line. The only people I tip for the holidays is the mailman, the sanitation men and my hairdresser. Other than that, you're on your own!

I am never home to get the mail, so I don't know who our mail carrier is and whether it is a different one every day. I usually only give sanitation a gift, but last year I taped an envelope to the garbage can and they didn't take it. Are they not allowed to take cash - maybe it depends on the town. I am going to try again this year - I have never had such a hard time giving away money!

NONE.
I live in a legal two family home and the mail is constantly shoved into one box. Torn from being stuffed in. And today I got my diploma from finishing my apprenticeship and it is stamped 'Do Not Bend.' Yeah, guess what they did anyway.

Same. I tip my sanitation guy $100, but my mailman doesn't deliver if it's raining or really windy so I don't feel very thankful about him...

Yes that's how it is for the cops.
They actually get randomly watched.
They can't even accept a cup of coffee.
And a lot of the old school shop owners love to give the cops free things- but they can't accept them!

yup.
we are not even allowed to gift EACH OTHER anything more valuable than $10 (we can only gift down..and even then...)
but cops aren't supposed to accept free food and such, and sometimes we'd give them some ice cream when I worked in Haagen Dazs
though these days, for every person that tries to thank them with a gift...it seems like there's 50 more people that want to spit on them...dealing with the public ain't easy!
