How much does it cost to have your wisdom teeth pulled?
I have an appt for wednesday morning my insurance fully covers cleanings and check ups and stuff, but only offer a 25% discount on oral surgery (my tooth is impacted and i want to be asleep when they do it). anyone have any estimates? this isnt gonna be over a $1k is it???
that would be alot to swallow considering Christmas is around the corner!

The price depends on if the tooth is on the top or the bottom of your mouth. I know that for me when they took out my wisdom tooth on the bottom of my mouth it was $475. It might be more if you want to be asleep.

I had all four taken out at the same time and two were impacted (one of them was embedded in the bone, so part of the bone was removed as well ). Anyway, I was put under and I paid $400 out of pocket.
My insurance is MetLife.

mine's on the bottom. $475 is doable, i hope its not too much more to be asleep for the procedure!

Did you check with you medical insurance? DH had to have a wisdom tooth pulled last year and we would've had to pay a few hundred out of pocket but I asked them to bill my medical and it covered it 100%. We just had to pay a co-pay.

what do you mean? my medical and dental are a government plan (empire medical) because DH is a government employee. the oral surgeon is one of the ones in the company book and when i called they said they offer a 25% discount and 50% needs to be paid at the time of the visit. is there someone else i should be calling?

Not sure what the going rate is. Usually each practice has it's break down of charges.
You can definitely call the office and they will tell you the total of each tooth and then you can figure out what insurance will pick up and what you have to cover.

Sorry I should've specified. If we had gone through our dental insurance (Cigna)we would've had to pay a few hundred out of pocket. But we went thorugh medical (Aetna) since it was an impacted tooth and they covered it. Is your dental and medical the same? Sorry, I don't know a/t about gov't health insurance.

i just had a wisdom tooth removed last week. i was told that my dental insurance covers the removal if the tooth came down (with novicane only) but will not cover the procedure once they cut your gums - it then must go through medical insurance. slowly, all insurance companies will be doing this so make sure you call them first. your doctor will also call. the price i got for the procedure was $700 for the procedure with 1/2 hour anesthesia.

in my case, my medical insurance only covered the extraction if they were impacted in a certain way. (which of course they looked like they were, but when he pulled them they werent and had to go thru dental)

I don't think it will cost a $1000. I had all 4 removed, 2 were impacted and I was knocked out. It cost around $1700. I could have bought 3 coach bags for that amount of $$$!!! Good luck!

i think also sometimes medical insuarance will cover it if its an emergency situation (you go to the ER), but you'd have to call them to find out.

I was put asleep..... I can't remember if it was before or after insurance  it was last year... I think that was before insurance.

I just had mine done and the charges are still pending, so we will see what happens in the end, but since mine were impacted they went through medical insurance and not dental. I had to pay $50 at the office for a copay and something else that I don't remember and so far that is it.

Only Stony Brook has dentists on call in their ER and they won't do a procedure in the ER, they will only come in, do a consult, take X-Rays, give you pain medicine and refer you to their dental clinic
We had to do this twice with DH, once on a friggen Saturday night, he went Monday morning to the SB dental clinic (where they do not take insurance) and he paid $100 to have the tooth pulled with novacaine.
But yes, our medical covered the ER visit and DH is a city employee.

I was awake when I had two pulled. One was impacted and I heard funky crunching noises, it rocked. I cannot remember the exact price but it was way under 1K.
