How much formula does/did your newborn take?

DD is just over a week old and we are now feeding 3 oz every 2 or 3 hours. Occassionally she will want to be fed almost every hour! I don't want to overfeed, but I don't want to starve my baby either. Before I feed her, I make sure she is changed, offer the soothie, rock her, etc, just to make sure she is really hungry. As soon as I offer the bottle, she gobbles it up!
She was 7lbs7oz at birth, 7lbs4oz when we took her home and 7lbs13oz at her 1 week check up.

Is her eating schedule normal? Am I overfeeding? She really does seem hungry when I feed her!

TIA!!

we came home from the hospital on day 12 (due to MY illnesses) and she was on 4 ounces every 4 hours. By day 5 or 6 that's what she was on...the nurses never believed me - and we'd send her to the nursery for the night & they'd give her 2 ounces and an hour later - they'd have to give her another 2...Chat Icon Chat Icon

Our ped said 2-4oz every 2-3 hours when we were discharged from the hospital and the same at her 2 week appt.

Right now she is 5 weeks and is drinking 4oz every 4 hours. She has a long stretch at night where she goes about 6 hours in between bottles. She still only drinks 4oz when she get up between 4-5am.

ETA: every once in a while she gobbles up the 4oz and we try to get her to go to sleep. I have put 1oz in a bottle to see if she wants more and she will drink a couple of sips and spit out the bottle or fall asleep so I know she's not ready for 5oz yet. She has been on 4oz for about 2 weeks now.

We do the same thing. Figuring it out is really a process of elimination.

DS was 7lb 13oz at birth. We started with the 2oz ready made bottles they give you at the hospital. we did those for 2 weeks i think. We upped to 3 and were on 3oz for a while; DS would eat every 2-21/2 hours. The hospital kept saying formula fed babies should go every 3-4; but DS would not have it..LOL.

Now he's 5mo's; on 6 oz and some solids and we can get him to go 3 1/2 hours usually.

I learned real fast what DS's hungry cry was..LOL.
