How necessary is a Glider?
I'm up in the air about getting one. I don't want to spend the $ if I'm not going to really use it..

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
I felt the same way. My mom talked me into it. One of my best purchases ever. I have used it every single day since the day my DS was born and he is two now! First it was the best place for nursing by far - which I did for 10 mos. Now, it is where we sit and read stories and drink milk b/f naptime and bed....

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
I'm wondering the same thing about a glider, but our issue is that we won't have a nursery so we'd either have to put the glider in our bedroom (way too tight) or in our living room. Is it even worth it then?

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
I got one when my son was born and we never used it. I hope to use it with my second, but imo its not necessary.

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
We love ours! We got it from WalMart for like $175 (including the ottoman!) and use it every night when we give DS his bottle before putting him down for the night.
IMO, it's definitely worth it!

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
i dont really use mine. The only times I do is when I am reading her a bed time story (which I could use the couch for) or if she has a cold or something, I will rock her to sleep.
If our next baby is a girl, they will share a room, the glider is going - and I dont think I will miss it!

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
Incase anyone was wondering, I just found one on walmart.com - it's only $139 for the glider AND ottoman, and while I was hesitant bc it's soooo cheap, it had over 200 reviews that were either 4 or 5 out of 5 stars!!! AND walmart has 97 cent shipping...sooo it's kind of a steal :) HTH

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
I didn't want to spend the $ on a new one and found a great deal on craigslist.
I love it -- I've been sitting in it already while DH does some things in the nursery. It was so comfy I even dozed off in it yesterday!

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
Invaluable! I don't know if you will be BFing, but if you are it's great to have. We splurged on a Dutalier with a nursing ottoman and I am so glad that we did, I use it during the day and at night because nursing on the couch hurts my back.

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
we meant to get one before the baby, then we decided not to b/c we werent sure we would need it. first nite home with DS i had no where to rock him or soothe him.
DH went out to kmart the next day b/c they had a nice one on sale..it was the best $150 we spent for the set. Its so comfy and a nice place to rock DS and spend time with him.

We are doing the same thing, putting it in the living room. I plan on BF so this is a must for me.

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
I bought one at the last minute with my son and now 5 years later I still use it to put my 3 year old DD to bed. Its not necessary, but it is nice to have.
No reason to spend $$$ on those fancy ones at BRU and other places. I bought one from target for under $200 and it is fantastic. Still in perfect shape.
I can tell you what you don't need is the ottoman with the gider. That is a waste.....just get the glider.

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
Everyone that I know who has/had one has just raved about it.
I bought just one of those wooden one on craigslist (they don't sell the beautiful arm-chair style ones over here) and we painted it. I'm also going to recover it to make it more 'me'.
Why don't you try craigslist and see if you can get a deal on one if you're not sure?

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
I never had one with my DD because we didn't have the room for it and I kicked myself all the time for not finding the room for one. When I watch my nephew, it's my favorite place ot sit with him. My sister swears by it, as well. Needless to say, we are getting one with this baby.

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
we dont have a glider but have the rocking chair from dh's own nursery... it is totally necessary to have some form of a comfortable chair in the nursery imo... even though my 14 month old sttn there is that rare night that he will wake up screaming and the last time all he would do was lie on me as i rocked him...

Re: How necessary is a Glider?
We used ours for almost a year until DD was off bottles. I got a cheaper one from Target and it fit the bill. If you have another comfy chair it will work just as well.

We use it all the time. The one we got was pricey, but well worth it. It's extremely comfortable and very useful when putting DS to sleep.
