Are you getting a glider? BTDT moms, is the glider necessary?

We have a large nursery for DS, but I am wondering if I will really use a glider...Is it necessary? I'm not BFing, so at night we'll be giving bottles (if that makes a difference)....Are you getting one?

I have an anitique rocking chair in the nursery and an Ikea Poang chainr in my bedroom. I was never completely comfortable in any of the gliders I tried!

I think its nice to have some sort of comfortable chair to be able to sit and rock the baby and either breast feed or give them a bottle. But it doesn't necessarily need to be a glider.

I have a tiny nursery for DD and initially left out the glider. One month later, we had ours delivered. It is awesome. I rock DD to sleep when she is fussy and it is great for nighttime feedings. My DH even uses it just to read his evening papers while DD plays in the crib. I say get one--especially if you have the space!

Re: Are you getting a glider? BTDT moms, is the glider necessary?

i didn't think it was necessary - in fact, i just got a rocking chair to start.

i caved and got a glider/ottoman set when DS was 6 weeks old and i am SO glad i did. the rocking chair just wasn't comfortable enough for the night feedings and my boppy pillow didn't fit in between the arms. the glider is so comfy and worth every penny.

if you have the room, i 1000% recommend getting one.

We have a relatively large nursery & it is one of the items on my MUST have list. I do not want a classic glider though but more of a chair. I will be breastfeeding but I also want a place to sit in case of sleepless evenings.

We just got one. We always wanted one but didn't have the money, but then I got a bunch of duplicates at my shower so we had enough in mechandise credit to get one this weekend. I'm so excited for it, my friends rave about them.

I absolutely love my glider. We use it for night and morning feedings. A lot of people told me not to get one and I'm so glad I didn't listen. Every night I sit in it and read to him. I definitely recommend one.

If you have the room then I highly recommend getting one.

When he was a baby he would get his nighttime bottle sitting on the glider. Now, every night before bedtime he sits on my lap and I read him a few stories.

There were plenty of nights spent rocking him on that thing also. I think it's def. great to have especially if you have the room!

I'm EBFing so it's a slightly different siutation, but I love the glider. I've mainly used it for feedings. When DS is fussy at night, DH will use it to help calm DS.

Re: Are you getting a glider? BTDT moms, is the glider necessary?

I don't plan on breastfeeding, but I did get a glider second-hand.

It's really nice - much more comfortable than a rocking chair, and much easier to get in and out of than the loveseat we currently have in that room. I'm sure I'll be rocking baby to sleep in it, middle of the night feedings, etc.

We don't plan on keeping the baby in our room at all - we want to use the nursery from day 1...

Originally I wanted an upholstered chair, one that's like a sofa, it's just looks more cozy. But we end up getting a traditional glider, because we have freakishly small doors and the upholstered chair would not of fit through the door... I have to say I LOVE my glider! Even DH sometimes sit in there to read lol.. I can't wait to nurse DD in my comfy chair Chat Icon

I just can not find one that I think is really comfy for the money - and I don't find them particularly easy to get out of .............so I'm on the fence about it.

I rarely used mine. I had a bassinet and BFd DS in our bed. I never just went to his room to BF DS. Mostly because we kept his crib also in our room until he was 7 months old.

I have one and LOVE it!
I used it for BFing (and that didnt last long at all) but, also used it for snuggling, reading, and just comforting.
Sometimes DS and I would both fall asleep on it. Very comfy and cozy.
He's 2 and I still sit in it.Chat Icon

I'm not planning on getting one. We have 4 very comfy extra wide rocking chairs for our front porch, bought with the intentions of using one in the nursery.

We bought one and I'm so glad I did.....I sat on so many of them and found the Shermag to be the most comfortable for me....We have a pretty large nursery, so size wasn't an issue, thankfully.

I am not buying a new chair but using our chaise lounge from our LR. It is actually convertible into just an arm chair with an ottoman so I plan on getting use out of it. We NEVER use it otherwise bc Rob and I sit together on the couch.....I think whether you are BF or not you sttill need somewhere comfy to sit while feeding...JMO!

My mom actually just ordered a Shermag one for us. I can't wait until it arrives! I was having a hard time finding one so she read a bunch of ratings on them, picked one out and bought it. Hopefully it blends w/ the rest of the nursery.

I got this as a gift:

I LOVE IT

I didnt breastfeed past 11days but my hubby could feed her in there too. I have photos and its very nice. Also its a LIFE SAVER when she's cranky from being sick. I can not imagine how I would have survived that first night with an ear infection Chat Icon .. Its worth every penny just for that night alone!

if you asked me at 6months preggo I'd say no, its not necessary, Now at 5m pp, its a vital necessity.

I do admit its not used every single day but its really awesome when I use it. Plus its wide enough I can actually put her next to me and read to her Chat Icon

Re: Are you getting a glider? BTDT moms, is the glider necessary?

I used my glider every day and night for my baby's first 6 months. (The glider is in our MBR). It was great to use when rocking my little one to sleep as well. DH liked bottle feeding the baby in the glider as well. I plan to use it again for baby #2. Once we're done, we're planning to move the glider into the LR.
