How old was DC when they were able to burp on their own?
And how did you figure out that you no longer had to burp them?

Not exactly sure when b/c I never really thought about it. DS is 10 months and I can't remember the last time I really "burped" him. Maybe around 7 months. 
Now at 10 months he really doesn't need to be burped or he burps himself

I have noticed DS burp on his own since day 1. He even burps while on the breast. but I think its just lucky
But I think you can stop burping them when they learn to sit up and start to move around.

DS always burped himself. No joke. But I still did it after a feeding. Probably stopped at around 2-3 months.
