How to get $ from a judgement

my mother and i lent someone money about 10 yrs ago. there was all paperwork signed so when he decided not to pay us back we took him to court and got a judgement against him. 10 yrs ago the judgement was about 12k,
The problem has always been he was working off the books for his fathers company and we couldnt get anything.
We have his social security, dob, address - pretty much everything.
We just found out he is on the books.

My mother doesnt speak english well and this judgement is in kings county. I live all the way out in suffolk, plus id rather have a professional to get the money - i know i have to pay a certian amount and thats ok.

Who would i go to? any recommendations are greatly appreciated!
thanks

Dont quote me on this. Im not 100% sure that the information is correct.

But it is my understanding that in New York State the statute of limitations on a judgement is 10 years...UNLESS...you renew the judgement.

So I would definitely look into at least renewing it before the statute runs out...if it hasnt already.

Check with a lawyer. Even if the statute expired, you may be able to renew the judgment. There also may be reasons that the statue could be "tolled" meaning the time was stopped for a period of time. I would definetly call a lawyer.
