I always want to ask this on parenting...
but I don't want to offend anyone
Do you think people are ever afraid that their child will be ugly?
ETA: I fear this...

LOL I'm TERRIFIED of it!
I look at some ugly friends and I'm like wow their kid is cute--in fact DH and I JUST had this conversation--and I always say if my kids scary looking I won't post pics...

Re: I always want to ask this on parenting...
I worry that my kid would get my nose.
But I'm actually frightened beyond belief that if I were to get PG that I'd have a daughter. I was anorexic and bulimic. And I see how scarred my mother is from it...how she still monitors me. Must have destroyed her, watching me hurt myself. I couldn't bear to watch my child go through the same. Not the same, but I'm more fearful of potentially passing on something like that, somehow, you know?

All the time!! And I feel like a horrible person for thinking it, but how can you not?! I noticed, though, that it seems like ugly parents make the cutest kids, and good looking parents sometimes have not so great looking kids. So where do I fall?! Hopefully in the middle!

I know I shouldn't be posting over here.....but I had to add to this because I was terrified of the same thing when I was pregnant! I'm average looking at best, and somehow, I created a gorgeous little lady.....so please don't be scared!
(Of course, now I'm scared that if I ever have another, I won't be as lucky!)

Re: I always want to ask this on parenting...
I don't worry so much about the child being ugly...I think my family makes some pretty cute babies. hehe
But I always worry that my kid will have my slow metabolism and be chunky and have body issues all thru childhood.
My DH is tall & slender and I'm short and fat. It's pretty much a crap shoot.

Re: I always want to ask this on parenting...
Are you kidding me?! Every parent fears it!!
My question that I would like to ask... Does anyone think their kid is ugly?
I have a co-worker with an ugly baby and she's always showing off pictures and I'm sorry but the baby is just not cute. I guess I wouldn't say ugly, but definitely not cute. I think it's because of her giant oddly shaped melon!
I'm going to hell in a handbasket.

Just saw this post, and Yes I used to tell my mom all the time, if I had an ugly baby, she could be honest with me and tell me so.

Re: I always want to ask this on parenting...
I was so afraid that my kid would get my brown eyes, which I have never liked, and my husband's nose, which I'm just not into . So, my fears came true yet the combo looks amazing, nothing like the way I pictured it . I know that the nose may change but my DS's face can carry it . Here we are:
Even in a picture that I think is a terrible angle for my son and not a good picture at all, he is so cute to me!!!
His typical facial expression:
Yes, I had those fears.

This made me laugh because my godparents and the entire family agree that my cousin (her son) was ugly as hell as child.
It's almost a running joke among everyone when we see his pics as a child and say "Omg how you were so damn UGLY!"
Luckily he grew out of the awkward stage and is a handsome adult.

Re: I always want to ask this on parenting...
OK, crashing this board.
I think that there are a lot of things that parents worry about when it comes to their kids.
When it comes to "ugly' I'm not sure it's so much a fear about ugly in and of itself, but the fear that they may not be accepted or may be made fun of because of it. You always want your child to fit in and not have a difficult time.
What I can say is at every step of development I have thought my kids are beautiful.... BUT sometimes I look back at pictures of my DS when he was at certain ages and say "man, you looked kinda funny back then"!
I believe as a parent, you are blind to any "ugly"!

Parent here.
At the risk of sounding full of myself...I never really worried about it. I think my DH and I are relatively attractive, so I figured the kid would turn out OK.

Re: I always want to ask this on parenting...
Sorry I was lurking and literally Laughed Out Loud.
Me and DH always wonder this because if our kid gets a combo of the wrong feature it can be scary.
I have huge eyes, DH has big ears and long nose, my nose is wide... My hair is horrible, very kinky. I cant imagine what a child with huge eyes and ears and big nose would look like. Can you tell I really thought about it.
And i know this is probably horrible but when we decided to take in Aj, we didnt have any pics of him. And we did wonder if he was a cute kid. I know, I am horrible.
