I am so nervous about telling work
Its not because I am afraid of their reaction, I know everyone willl be happy for me. I am scared because then everyone will know. I have kept it a secret for 13 weeks and am so afraid once I come out to everyone, somehow I will jinx things...
I planned on telling work last week and then chickened out. I have to do it, I am obviously showing, and I am sure most people don't think I am just getting fat.
When did all of you tell work, or when are you planning on it?

Re: I am so nervous about telling work
i told work early on, around 10-11 weeks. but i think for someone who has gone thru IF and had a miscarriage, it's a totally different experience.
i work with a woman who had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks (baby didn't grow past 6 weeks) and she didn't tell anyone she was pregnant again until she was over 4 months along - it was obvious she was PG because she is such a tiny person, but most people here in the office had enough tact to let her "come out" on her own.
just remember, you are under no obligation to tell anyone! i mean, i would let your supervisor/boss know sometime before you went into labor and of course HR has to know so you can plan on taking maternity/childcare leave... but after that, you can keep your pregnancy as private as you want.

I told work last week (when I hit the 12 wk mark, I told everyone).
Its def. scary. I still have one train buddy whose been in Europe who doesn't know. Once she finds out, thats it. Kinda sad.

Re: I am so nervous about telling work
i had to tell work right before I was 6 weeks bc I had some complications and had to leave work early. I was so worried bc I knew everyone already knew what was going on. I was scared if something happened everyone would ask me. Wait until you feel comfortable enough, it's totally up to you

Re: I am so nervous about telling work
I don't really have any desire to tell anyone at work. I work with a really small group also. I only told my admin at 7 weeks b/c we car pool together and at that time the MS was kinda bad so she really figured it out when i kept showing up at her house late and pale looking!
I guess I'll tell in a couple of weeks. I'm already wearing layers to hide the extra weight!
Tell whenever you are ready is the bottom line!

Re: I am so nervous about telling work
why dont you wait till you are more comfortable?
there is no rule as to when you have to tell your boss.. you might be able to get away with not telling them for another 3 weeks depending on how big your tummy gets..

Re: I am so nervous about telling work
Thanks everyone!
Problem is, I don't thik I will ever feel comfortable! I was nervous to tell all my friends! I think I "popped" in the past few days, so there is no hiding anything anymore. Even my parents who see me every week commented on it this weekend, and my friend at work (the only one who knows) said on Friday it is starting to look obvious. (She is pregnant too). My dr. did tell me I would measure about a month ahead with twins... guess its true!
I just have to get my courage up and go pay a visit to my boss! I know she will be very happy and excited.

Re: I am so nervous about telling work
I had to tell people at work in stages in order to keep myself safe. Some of my students are very volatile and aggressive. I had to protect myself. I told my assistant and my direct supervisor and waited a little longer to tell higher administrators. I also told the crisis response team at my school and they watch me like I have my own Secret Service patrol!

I know what you mean! I'm already 17 weeks now and it still seems so surreal. I'm reluctant to tell anyone yet even though some do suspect. Plus, I really hate being in the limelight... :P

Re: I am so nervous about telling work
I totally understand
I told at 13weeks
Then at 14weeks I had bleeding and had to leave work to see a doctor to make sure everything was ok.. I felt like such an idiot for saying I was preggers to begin with and I thought I jinxed it.
Well I'm 32weeks along now..
Just gonna have to bite that bullet, dear.

Re: I am so nervous about telling work
I told them right after my first trimester screening, when I was almost 13 weeks. I actually wanted to wait a week or two longer, but there was a partners' meeting that day and I know they were considering hiring someone else. I figured it was important to tell them as it might have impacted their decision.
I was really nervous, especially b/c the last two women who got pregnant never returned to work. Everyone received the news really well. Don't worry.

Re: I am so nervous about telling work
I told around 7 weeks because I wasn't feeling well. I definitely wasn't showing, but I wanted my principal to know why I might need coverages.
The sooner you do it, they better you will feel.

Re: I am so nervous about telling work
So I did it. After a new person asked me this afternoon when I was due, I panicked and thought I should tell my boss ASAP. I wanted her to know first! She was so happy and excited. I think she thought I was going to tell her I was quitting - she looked so nervous when I walked into her office and closed the door!
