i am so sad (Kentucky Derby related)

just hate horse racing. will never ever watch a horse race ever again in my life. i hate seeing animals in pain or hurt. that was such a sad sight poor thing..

I am with you and will never watch the Kentucky Derby or another horse race again. The way the commentators and the veternarian talked about it was disgusting!

I didn't see it but I just heard.
I never understood horse racing, dog racing, etc...
I have family that lives in Saratoga (horse country to the extreme!) and they just don't get me when I don't bet on the horses when I visit.
I understand that these horses are probably treated extremely well, but it just pains me to no end to see this amazing beauty go out onto the track and then a minute later have it's life taken away for the sport.


To cheer some of you up, my father does have a friend in Saratoga that rescues retired thoroughbreds & finds them good homes...she's incredible.

I missed her falling bc DD started to fuss at that moment but I'm so sad over this.

Ughhh I looked it up. This poor thing broke her 2 front ankles, compound fractures--bones came right out of the skin. It just made me sick.

Ugh. I can't stand racing. I have been riding for over twenty years but racing is one thing I never liked. Most of the people I ride with feel the same. We treat horses like humans (kind of crazy but nice). I would never push an animal to a point where she could break.

My father told me about this poor horse. He said they kept the camera on this poor helpless animal, he said it was horrible.

Even my DH was like "wow, that's really horrible" and was disturbed by it...he loves animals, but I was surprised by his reaction.

ETA: Of course I found it very sad too

I didn't hear about this, but I just looked it up on CNN..... so sad.....I don't think horses are meant for racing. what happened to that horse is horrible!!

Well this is the first year in a while I didn't watch the race. I don't know anything about racing but I have been reading some interesting things online tonight.
I have a question for those who know horses? Was this a tragic accident or is the jockey to blame? I read something about how the jockey should have "pulled up" to prevent both bones from breaking??? Is that just people talking or did he push her too hard in the end?

It really just disgusts me. After Barbaro just two years ago...There is something going very wrong here, and with the increasing number of incidents and tragedies it is almost sadistic to watch. I wonder if there is something they could have done...Tranquilized her and put her in traction to aid the healing...I don't know why they made the decision to euthanize her so quickly.
