Do you know your blood type because....
i found out that Im A negative and that means if DH isnt, and likely he's not bc only 15% of people are A neg, i need to get a certain shot to prevent.....oh god i cant even remb what i was told.
This is becoming a real pain in the arse this baby making stuff.

You are talking about the Rhogam Factor. If you have a negative blood type and your partner is positive, at 28 weeks (or if you have any bleeding during your pregnancy) you get a shot.
Just had mine done a month ago. Didn't hurt at all.

yes i am also A- and when i just recently had my chemical pregnancy they gave me the rhogam shot, and when i do get pregnant i believe they said you it at 28 weeks and again sometime around labor due to the bleeding involved, and if in the event you start bleeding sometime during your pregnancy you would get it,
eta they didn't ask what blood type dh was so it had nothing to do with him, at least for me

it actually does matter what your DH is. if you are a negative blood type, and so is he, then the baby will also have a negative blood type. i think usually they don't bother testing b/c its easier just to give you the shot (there might be another reason, i am not sure).
when you get PG they will type your blood and it will go in your file. as a PP stated, if you are negative, you will need the rhogam shot at 28 weeks, and i think you get it again when the baby is born if the baby turns out to be a positive blood type.

the shot is no big deal. it's in your arm and is quick.
they didn't even test my DH. they said since i was O neg, i was getting the shot regardless
and they will type you (get your blood type) during one of the first routine blood tests--so don't worry if you don't know yours!

yeah, the only reason I know is because I had a m/c and they told me I was A- and need a shot, but it turns out DH is the same blood type so I didn't have to get it.

Its not that big of a deal. I'm A- rh- and DH is +, I had a Rhogam shot at 28 weeks and then again after my son was born because he is A+.
I'll have another shot with this pg.

You most likely will need it. Again it depends on your DH.
I am A+ so won't need it.

i saw the needle he used and it was pretty small. definitely nothing larger than a regular needle (for me at least). technically, if DH is +, you definitely need the shot. if he is also -, i don't think you do. however, most doctors just give it to you if the mom is neg just to be on the safe side. they said they weren't even going to type DH.
and to anyone who needs to get it---tell your doc you want it in the arm. they can put it in any muscle--butt or upper arm. it DOES NOT have to be given in the butt unless you want it to.

Warning this response it long...
This is going to sound horrible but...
See, I was told that they don't test DH because they need to protect the woman and baby no matter what. It sounds HORRIBLE but that doctor doesn't know if a woman really got pregnant from the man they said they did. They need to assume that the partner is postive and give the shot. My mom works in L&D and this is the reasoning she told me for why they give the shot to every women who is Rh-. What if somone lied about, or wasn't sure about the paternity and future pregnancies were affected by RH incompatibility. (that is how it works btw.. If you didn't get the shot this pregnancy you will be fine. But once there is a mixing of your blood and your babies blood, if it is +, your body will start to build up anitbodies against RH + blood. Then when you get pg again, your body will attack that pregnancy. It gets worse with each pregnancy and can lead to serious problems. They can monitor and somewhat treat these problems as they occur later in the pregnancy but if your blood mixes and the anitbodies develop you number of children are limited. It was explained to me that people like us, with Rh- blood, used to not to be able to have many children, one or two at the most)
Kind of goes along with my RE getting a signature from DH at our first visit so when I bring a sample for IUI they can match the signature on the sample with the one on file and make sure I didn't pull a switcheroo with the sperm.
I was kind of taken aback by that but it really makes sense. Stranger things have happened.

I've gotten it in my arse 2x - no big deal. I got it when I miscarried my first pregnancy then again when I spotted around 8wks with DS, then again at 28wks and again after I had him in hospital.
The biggest thing that stinks about it is that most insurance don't cover it so you have to pay like $200 out of pocket for it (my MD gave me an Rx which I had to fill and then bring back to her to give it to me).

i don't know how big the needle was i didn't see it but these kinds of things never bother dh and the dr said he made a face when he saw it, maybe he just fet bad for me, and she didn't ask where i wanted it she just gave me the shot it the butt but i don't care cause i hate seeing needles i always look away so that was good for me
i presume they gave me the shot to be safe since they didn't know dh's bloodtype

My mom had that!!! She was one blood type and my dad was the other and it's so the bloods don't mix the wrong way or something like that. I don't have the same blood type (I am B+ like my dad) so it's not something I worry about but I do know what you are talking about!
