WELL SAID!!! MrsRivera, all you do is complain! One post after the other, it is sickening. Are you ever thankful for anything???
Not for nothing...but your name doesn't even look remotely familiar to me. So I find it fascinating that you just have me allllll figured out. Very weird...
I have a lot that I am thankful for, actually. You would know that if you actually knew me as well as you claim. But thank you for asking, very sweet of you

I've been back to school with kids for 4 days.
I am EXHAUSTED.
We do not have duty free lunch--we eat with our kids. We also take them out for recess.
I'm over all of that...it's been that way since I moved to NC and I'm totally used to it.
But my new principal forces us to meet with our grade level during EVERY prep of the week. We get a 40-minute "break" every day, that's the ONLY break we get, and she forces us to meet every day in the planning room.
I'm so freakin' tired. I'm not gonna be able to do this all year, but I have no idea what my options are here
She sounds like a pill. What does she want you doing when you meet? Are you supposed to be planning, grading, doing PLCs? Or does she just require you to be there together?

2 days a week, we meet with the Literacy Coordinator. And that's totally fine, if she has ideas or strategies for us...but even she has said that she's not sure how she will fill up 2 40-minute periods a week.
The other 3 days, she requires us to just be in the planning room together. If we actually got planning done, that might be ok. But the other 3 teachers have been there since the school opened, and it pretty much turns into a 40-minute b****-fest between them. It's hard not to...we are ALL so frustrated.
I don't see what the big deal is about having time in our rooms...maybe she's afraid that we're not doing anything productive? Although I would tend to think that if she has classroom experience, she would understand how much work there is to be done.
I don't know...all I know is, I'm not sure how we're going to get our science labs done this year because I don't have a time to set up and prep the room for them

Wow....that is really crazy. She sounds like she has had limited actual classroom experience. (the BEST kind of administrators! ;))
I am sad for you that you have to work for someone like that. The reality is there is very little protection down here for teachers when it comes to this kind of thing. I am thankful everyday that I have a principal who respects us, appreciates us and who will really listen to us when we go to her with concerns.
Can you transfer within the district next year? I wouldn't stick around there for more than a year- there are schools with much better working conditions out there, even in NC!

That is my plan, actually. I am really kicking myself, though--at some point, I would like to apply for one of the Literacy Specialist positions. I was going to do it for this school year, but I figured I would try to get in one more year of classroom experience so that I have an even 5 years before joining the curriculum staff
It kinda stinks, though--I was transferred to this school when there was re-districting at my other school. At first I was thrilled because this school is literally 5 minutes from my doorstep. My other school had a few unrealistic expectations as well, but it was NOTHING compared to where I am now. As you said, we had admin that respected us and didn't micromanage.
We have plans to pack up and move to PA in a few years anyway...I was hoping to be able to stick it out at this same school for the benefit of my resume (probably doesn't look so good to work in 3 schools in 4 or so years ), but now...who knows.
I am here for this year and I'm going to make the best of it...as other teachers are saying, we can only hope that the higher-ups realize that she has no clue how to run a school and forces her to get steppin'

I have to ask because it's killing me to hear how horrible your job is for you this year.... but since noone is using the time productively and/ or wants to have their prep taken away like this, what would happen if you all banded together and just didn't do it?

That is a very good question.
I wonder...?
Truthfully, I think mostly everyone is afraid of her. She's very intimidating--and I also think that most of us are afraid to "cross" her because, the economy being what it is, none of us can afford to lose our jobs.
Since I am new in the building, I really don't want to take the chance to find out what would happen if we didn't do what she required...
