What a miracle....
This is the reason DH, every single day before he leaves for work and I am deep asleep, comes over to my side of the bed, gives me a kiss and tells me he loves me.

Val - just when I thought the tears stopped for the day - I open this thread.
I can't even begin to imagine what you must have felt for those hours - THANK GOD he came home to you.
Prayers for all those who didn't make it home to their loved ones that day.

It's just, every 9/11, my heart feels so heavy. It hurts.
Every day my husband leaves for work, ever since 9/11/01, I HAVE to wave to him from the window.
EVERY day.
I saw all the 9/11 threads and thought it was time to share my story.
I didn't share my husband's side of it because frankly, it is way too disturbing.
And because, it is HIS story to tell.
The things he saw. Things he smelled.
I wanted my thread to be one of hope, and inspiration.
Thank you so much for all of your hugs.
It's really helping me get through this day.

All I know is that took me about 10 minutes to read, I couldn't see most of it through the tears that are still flowing from my eyes.

I know this had to be heartbreaking for you and I want to thank you for sharing this with us
This is exactly how I reacted to reading this as well. Thank you for letting us into your life and your heart through this incredible story.
A little side note...I worked at ground zero in the days, weeks, and months following 9-11 as a Red Cross Mental Health Counselor and heard countless stories like yours. I thank GOD for you and your family that your story had a happy ending. For the others who had a very different ending, I continue to pray for you

Val, this took me so long to read - I went though 3 tissues I was crying so hard feeling each step as you went through it all
I am glad Russ made it home to you and you are one to have a happy ending to this day
