I'm crying at my desk at work---I seriously can not imagine that feeling when you hugged him.
My siste was working in the Pentagon that day--and I thought I'd never hear from her again, knowing she was okay was the biggest relief of my life.

sigh.... you made me cry too....
and you made me relive the day. I didn't meet DH yet, but I DID have 2 very close friends who were covered with ash and missing for most of the day. Both worked next door to the towers.
my day was very similar to yours.... panicked and waiting for a phone call when all phone lines were jammed 
I got the calls at night... one at around 6pm, and the second only at 11pm....
I later found out they were walking together under the first tower as the plane hit.
the whole day was a blur.
such a horrible horrible day
I'm so glad that your story also had a happy ending
