I forget the deal with this one - pedicure question
I signed DD up for swim class and with the weather change on the horizon... I'd like to make my feet look "presentable". I already have trouble reaching my toes for long periods of time, which I remember will only get worse... but DD was born in May, this time I'm going all the way through July pregnant.
I remember something about how you cannot have your feet massaged after a certain point in the pregnancy. I am 23 weeks pregnant at this point. Are pedicures off limits and if there are only certain parts that are - I'm not sure how to ask this other than just to ask - how do you "communicate" this to most nail salon staff. I don't want to be rude, but I want to make sure nothing is done that can harm me or the baby. Hope my question isn't offensive, but I hope someone can help me relate my needs.
Are the restrictions just massage or other parts such as buffing the undersides of feet, the hot water, etc? Do you just go in and say "I want my toe nails filed and painted"? Do they charge you full pedicure price for that simple request?
Thanks in advance and I hope it made sense and didn't come off the wrong way.

You can definitely get a pedicure. I am 30 weeks and just got one yesterday. From what I understand pedicures feel amazing especially as you get further along in your pregnancy because your feet will hurt more. Besides, your feet might as well look good!

Re: I forget the deal with this one - pedicure question
I thought there was a problem with smelling the fumes and wearing nail polish? My doctor didn't mention it, but the article above does talk about it. I haven't had any nail polish on since my bfp and I'll probably just avoid it until the end at this point. I have done my own mini pedicure at home with a loofah stone, moisturizer, nail trim, etc., but no polish. As it gets harder to bend down, I fully intend to ask my DH to do it for me.

I just told them "light massage". They got it. But, they almost went too light.. She seriously just put cream on my legs.
As for the fumes.. they may make you feel But, I have seen plenty of women working there while PG. I wouldn't worry too much.

This link was incredibly helpful... I knew that the massage thing was an issue, but that it promotes clots to break off - especially for me since I'm on Lovenox to try to prevent them during pregnancy- is really troubling.
I know someone who got acrylics done during both her pregnancies with no problem and also as one person said - women who work among the fumes while pregnant b/c they work at salons. I wouldn't probably go every other week personally, but I thought once a month or less may be okay. I will tell them no massage, no foot spa... and maybe no foot buffing either (still not clear if that has any reflexology issues). I know my toes curl when the buff the bottoms of my feet. I just want a nice filing and some nice polish. Maybe just book a "polish change" and ask them to file the nails. I know the places I've gone to are tough to communicate with though. Maybe for giggles I'll see if DH could try his hand at painting my toe nails. That should be funny!
They should make special pedicures for pregnant people like how there are pregnancy massages.
