We wanted to be surprised - we wanted the 9 months anticipation.
We wanted to be able to say it was 'a boy' or 'a girl' the day the baby was born.
This is how we envisioned it for our entire lives.

When I was pregnant with Damien we found out. We are not finding out this time. With my son we lived in an apt. so it was much easier with the planning and such. I also wanted a boy so badly I needed to prepare myself if it was a girl Now that I have my boy I am just wishing for a healthy baby. We are also having a scheduled c-section so we figured why not one surprise

we wanted to find out b/c we wanted to know- no real reason.
i don't think the surprise is the "whole point of pregnancy"- the baby is- whether you find out or not.

We wavered back and forth on this and decided not to find out. Our friends and family think we are crazy, but I am 29 weeks now and am very happy that we don't know.
The anticipation is so much fun, as is hearing everyone else be SO adamant that they just KNOW what you are having (we'll see who is right and wrong!) I still feel like we are bonding with the baby because we have given him/her a nickname and talk to the baby every night.
But most of all, DH and I have always imagined that wonderful moment when he can walk out of the delivery room and be the one to announce, "It's a ____!"

This is how I feel now. Who knows when the time comes. DH and his side of the family would want to know. Me...I am pretty friggin patient  And I really want to hear "It's a __!" With my niece and siblings, everyone found out and as the person on the receiving end, and this may sound horrible, but knowing what it was before hand and with scheduled c-sections, it wasn't as momentous as when my cousin was born and we were all taking bets and making predictions. With her, nobody knew and everyone was so adament about what she was and when we got the phone call that she was indeed a she, it was awesome! We only get crappy surprises...I know people say "oh you're still surprised" but I really want this one for what it is. And I'm so OCD planner freak.

I'm torn...I guess I'll know more when the time comes how I really feel, but I think being able to surprise everyone else with the sex of the baby is so great! It is very practial though as far as decorating and buying clothes. Also, other people know what to buy you. I don't know what I will do when the time comes though!

I don't have any children but I think I'd like to find out the sex before delivering. I'd like to be able to plan and decorate accordingly.
A friend of mine said for him finding out the sex gave 3 special moments instead of 2... 1 when you find out you're pregnant, 2 learning the sex and 3 when the baby is born.

I've always wnted to be surprised, much to the dismay of everyone else.
I have two reasons for wanting to wait:
1) It does not matter if we have a boy or a girl, so long as the baby is healthy
2) It is one of the only "true" surprises in life
I cannot wait until I hear the doctor say "it's a ....."in the delivery room
I did, however, have a dream that I had a girl with the chubbiest cheeks I have ever seen

I was so excited to be pregnant that I was on the fence about finding out but DH really wanted to. When we were in that room and the tech asked us it was so hard to say no. It did help us plan and I always wondered what he would look like. We did decide to not find out the next time. I feel that since I already know what pregnancy and Labor & Delivery feel like I wanted to leave the sex a surprise.

I am the type of person that always needs to be prepared... I wanted all the clothes to be ready (and I wanted pink or blue, not green and yellow). It's a personal decision...
What really bugs me is everytime someone asks me "Are you going to find out if it's a boy or girl?" and I answer yes we are...they answer "Ohh you're ruining the surprise" IT'S NOT YOUR CHOICE! and to us it's still a surprise, you don't know what the baby is going to look like.

Yes I am one of the ones who is dismayed by the way you screwed your child out of some nice clothes this weekend because I got too frustrated looking for cute gender neutral stuff!

Not knowing exactly when I will have the baby is suprise enough for me. I will definitely find out again with this baby. I'm a planner and would hate all the yellow and green stuff people give when they don't know the sex.

Well when you find out at the doctor's office before the baby is born it will be the same surprise as when the baby is actually born. It's just that now you can think about names, prepare the nursery, etc.

Well, I am the total opposite. I felt like, if they could tell me, why WOULDN'T I want to know? I mean, I was able to refer to her by her name, not IT, I was able to buy her clothes, set up her room, etc. And not to mention, I don't care much for surprises. I'm a planner. And having been there and done that, I can tell you that it's every bit as special to have a baby that you already know the sex of. I was just as surprised when I found out the sex at 20 weeks as I would have been if I had found out at birth.
I completely agree with this and with DebG about bonding with the baby.

You need to be more dilligent in finding something orange, red, yellow, green, white (there are SO many options)
Basically anything except blue, pink or purple....... love ya anyway

I have to say being pregnant this is one of the issues that bothers me the most. I am finding out however there are people in DH's life (and mine now) that are so dam n opinionated and against this that its crazy!!! They act as if they are disappointed that we are finding out. I want to tell them to F-off!!!!Its our live and our choice and believe u me I have been surprised with many things in my life (proposal, 30 b-day party, a job that I wanted, romantic things Dh does for me etc....) why do I keep hearing that there are such few surprises when there are tons everyday!!! AS u can see I really needed to VENT!!! Thanks for listening.
