at least that is what this woman said in childbirth class-- the one I DROPPED, but whatever.

But, if your mom went late, are you susceptible to go late as well?

My bro was 2 weeks late (he was first), and I was 10 days late. I never realized this before, but I am thinking this does not bode well for me.

MIL on the other hand was early all three times, and my FIL missed the birth of DH cause he was parking the car!

I never heard this but hopefully it's true,my grandmother went early and FAST with my mom, my mom was roughly two weeks early with me and FAST, all first children, so I'm hoping I follow in that trend!!!!!

This is #2 for and my first sounds so much like my mom's delivery of me and of my grandmothers as well. I am praying for another fast and easy birth.

man, am I screwed!!

My mom only went into labor after taking Castor Oil-- not sure what happened after that.

And with me, she was in labor for over a day-- went the hospital, got sent home and by the time she went back-- too late for drugs!!!

i think that it holds some truth...my mom was late with all of us...i was 5 days late with DD.

I am doubly screwed...not only was my mom 2 weeks late, but she was in labor with me for more than 24 hours.....oy.

I don't know how much I believe it. My Mom went 3 days late with my brother (her first) and it was a pretty easy labor/delivery.

So far 4 of my sisters have had children. They have had very different first deliveries:

1st sister: went early and had a tough labor/delivery

2nd sister: whet on time and had the baby out in 2 pushes.

3rd Sister: went late, had a fast labor and looooong delivery

4th sister: went two weeks late, had to be induced she had a very long difficult labor and delivery which almost ended in an emergency c-section.

Well, I think it holds true for me too, but my mom had three different deliveries with me and my sisters. My mom was 13 days late with me but delivery was FAST, I think 4 hours...and with my DS its was the almost the same I was 8 days late but delivered in 7 hours!

I never heard of this, but I was typing out what happened to my mom and it was the same.

I was 2 weeks early and the rest of my sibilings were a few days late.

When I had ds, he was 1 week early and dd was 2 days late.

My mom was late with all 3. I was 8 days late with my first. My second was a scheduled c-section, so who knows when he would have come.

I've heard this also, though I don't know if it's actually true. I was my mom's first child and I was about a week late. BUT...my mom insists the doctors were wrong and I was born on time. Keep in mind the due dates, etc. were a lot less accurate when our moms were pregnant since they didn't have sonograms or pregnancy tests.

I don't believe it's hereditary in terms of being late. There are factors for preemie deliveries (shape of uterus, etc) that I can see the link.

My mom went late (older sister) or on time (twins!).

I was 6 weeks early (ds) & 1 week early (dd)

the woman who gave my labor class said the same thing "whatever your mother's labor experience was with her first child could be similar to your first" it didn't ring true for me because my mom was a week early with me and was in labor for a total of 3 hours and I was 3 days late and was in labor for 16hrs+ and ended up with a C.

I hope not! I was born breech with the cord around my neck and was delivered vaginally! My mom said that she had never felt worse pain in her life!

I think that what's meant is not necessarily time lines but rather the type such as was it a fast delivery, pushing, etc. I personally think it's more of an old wives tale.

I hope that you go a little early or on time and fast:)

My mom was on time with me but it was a long delivery and I came out with my collarbone broken. My brother was a c section...

I wonder if it's true.

I've never heard of this before! I'm in trouble if it's true. My mom was hospitalized with contractions 8 weeks before her due date with me (I'm the oldest. They gave her something to stop the contractions and kept her for a few weeks. The contractions stopped and she was being discharged when everything started again and there was no turning back. I was born a few hours later. My sister was born on her due date, no details on the labor.

i dont think it is always true... but it may be most of the time.. my doc yesterday commented on this saying you tend to get your birthing hips from your mom... so if your mom had an easy time pusing out a 10lb baby, I fully expect you will not have a problem...

not that i expect this baby to be 10lbs.. i was just expressing concern cause both Dh and my side have big babies...

i told her my mom's longest labor was 4 hrs, she said i have a better chance than not i will follow her labor abilities...

it gave me hope, but i am not holding my breath!

Oh well I hope I can prove this flase. My mom was 3 weeks late with me, and 10 early with my brother.

I have a gut feeling Im going early. I could be wrong, but I hope not.

My mother had 4 children:
1st - 2 weeks late
2nd - 3 weeks late (me!)
3rd - 4 weeks late!!!!!
4th - 1 week late

I was 6 days early. And showed no signs of going early. So I don't really believe that your labor will be like your mother's! Thank goodness!!!!

I am one of 6 kids in my family and we were late or early or induced. Both my sisters gave birth between 5 days to a 1 week. SO who knows with me. JMO I look at it if the baby is ready then she/he will come.

I was my Mom's first and three weeks late They didn't induce in those days My DD was born on her due date but was induced for medical reasons. Found out when I got to the hospital that I was in pre-labor so she probably would have been born the next day anyway.

IF this is true and I say IF....THANK GOD i scheduled a c-section for 36 wks!! LOL my pooor Momma was in labor with me for 54 hours....active labor for 54 hours LOL...payback would have been a you know what LOL.....at least this way ill know it will only take abouut a half hour...much more appealing to the wuss in me!

My labor was not like my mothers. I was 2 weeks late when I was born - but DD was 10 days early. My mother never stalled during labor but with DD she not only stalled and I never progressed past 7-7.5 cms but she flipped sunny side at the last minute. My mother had bad back labor and I didn't have any back labor.
