I need Opinions on this Bed situation - which one?
We are trying to upgrade Noahs room to a bigger boy room. We are having trouble deciding what to do.
We are leaning towards keeping his furniture, its a great set and upgrading that when we do a whole new room when he is say 5-6 and will get a set he can grow into till teenage years.
For NOW...we want to start with a bed and decide from there.
These are the two we are considering. Totally different..
First would be the fire truck bed. He wants this obviously and I think it might entice him to actually SLEEP in it. LOL We could do easily a firetruck theme and be done with it.
The one I like as well is from Ikea. Its a reversible and a twin mattress vs. a toddler one.
It literally turns upside down to deicde what height you like. It looks like a bunk bed but the 3 steps are very low actually, its not high at all.
My concern is the steps...He will likely want to use it with the bed high.
Those who have kids his age 2 and 1/2- 3. Would YOU get this? Would you think he is old enough to climb to the top part? Is it safe for his age? also its out of stock , and we'd have to wait.
TIA!!! I really need opinions.
Here is a picture I found of it on a Blog to show how small it really is compared to the child.

I would not spend money on a firetruck bed. We are only using a toddler bed b/c DS' crib turned into one, if it hadn't, I would have gotten a twin bed.
That one from Ikea looks fine to me

They have a million of them on Craigslist for like $40. So even if he hates it, its less then the price of dinner out. lol

I would go for the Ikea bed....I'd be worried that the firetruck would become too much of a toy and not as much as a bed. Is it a twin sized bed, the Ikea one? I've always heard it's better to go with a twin or bigger as a first bed so you don't have to worry about the whole toddler mattress purchase which can be $$$.

yeah I could see that " being a toy" ...The mattress we have already...but we were all planned on a twin bed for the reasons you mentioned but then he saw this as I was searching and kept asking for it, and I just thought would be an easy "Change" ..

I actually think if you have the mattress and you can grab one for 40 bucks, why not? Hes only a toddler once. If you told me you were buying one brand new I would have a totally different answer. Its fun...go for it!

I just researched reviews on it and its not all that sturdy, although ekeep in mind, its not as high off the ground as it looks, its as high as my sons head, very low, but why spend the money for a crappy bed regardless....
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

So funny, we were just in Ikea last week looking for a big girl bed for DD. The quality of their beds were not good at all, IMO. All of them seemed very flimsy and didn't seem like they would last more than a couple of years.
ETA: We ended up at Bob's Discount Furniture and got a twin bed for $179. Super impressed.

I would be afraid of DD getting up in the middle of the night in the Ikea bed and forgetting she has to climb down. It's not that high, but I don't think I'd want my 2.5-3yr old in it. It is very cool looking though!

right now he sleeps on the bottom... as for the sturdiness, we got it from a friend because she was moving permanently out of USA and going back to poland... her daughter slept in that bed for a year before we got it... and it is fine, we have no problems with it at all and I know she had to lay with her daughter before she fell asleep so it held her and a two year old just fine
