I'm going to tread lightly here...

In my experience & in speaking to other people, "Christmas" is all over the place. One person said "It's an in-your face holiday". I thought she was overreacting until I was tasked with trying to find some Hannukah decorations for the office. Then I realized it really is...from November until January, it's hyped up.

I think it's a shame that people who celebrate other holidays are so often used to having their holiday overlooked, and saying "merry christmas" when they celebrate hannukah or another holiday is acceptable.

I get the sentiment behind telling someone you are thinking about them during the holiday season. But how much are you really thinking about THEM if you are sending them a card for a holiday they don't celebrate?

The CVS near me has a huge display as well but that being said there is a huge Jewish population that uses that store. Go one or two miles west, and that CVS wouldn't have the same stuff.

I say this every year, but quite frankly, it doesn't bother me so much at this time of the year because Chanukah is a festival and not a holiday to be equated with Christmas on any level. It is my understanding that Christmas and Easter are the big ones in the Christian faith. Whereas in Judaism, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Shavuot, Simchat Torah, Sukkot and Passover (and I am sure more but I forget) trump Chanukah in terms of importance. So that is why it is appreciated, but not that big of a deal.

I'd be more impressed if people remembered NOT to wish me a Happy Yom Kippur and rather an easy fast - then I'd know they took the time to educate themselves on my faith in the smallest way rather than just going through motions to sound PC. KWIM?
