The one factor I read which is correlated with being a trump supporter is having an authoritarian personality.
I'm shocked to read people who have supported Bernie will vote Trump. That makes zero sense to me. I was a huge Bernie supporter. I am a progressive. I will never vote for Trump or HRC. I'll be voting for a third party candidate. I'm doing it to protest, to hopefully one day open us up to a multiparty system, and because I truly truly can not stomach either Donnie or Shillary. I just can not do it.
I was not a Sanders supporter but the rest of this I agree with. The sight of either one of them turns my stomach. I think the entire system needs to be revamped. The old ways aren't working anymore. I would love to see a third party candidate win the presidency one day. Oh, and by the way- my in laws and my DH are voting Trump. They are all extremely intelligent and well educated. I question their common sense, but that is a different thread.

Re: If the election was today?
If I was in NY, I would vote third party. Since I'm in PA (according to 538, the 2nd most likely state to decide the election), I am voting for Clinton.
I don't like Clinton as a person, but history has shown us that good leaders are not always good people. I think she will try to do at least some of what she's promised, if only to make herself look good. Trump, on the other hand, only cares about himself and headlines. At least she's got a history of working for children, the disabled, women, etc.
I'll be honest: As an independent, I could have gone for Trump early on. Like Bernie's not really a Democrat, Trump's not really a Republican. And I like that.
However, last summer, when he said McCain was not a war hero, it showed his stupidity, crassness, and disrespect. McCain, no matter what you think of him as a politician, had the opportunity to leave his foreign prison, but he refused to without his men. So he was sent back for 5 1/2 years. He was in solitary confinement. He was tortured. If that's not a hero, what is? I couldn't believe that pro-military voters were ok with this.
Other reasons that reinforce my decision not to vote for Trump: 1. Today's direct invitation to Russia to hack American accounts. Joke or not, that is dangerous and stupid.
2. Mocking the disabled.
3. His NATO comments. I wouldn't be against revisiting our terms with NATO, but this is not the way to do it.
4. His inability and/or refusal to articulate any policy position other than amazing. His doom and gloom speech last week talked about all the problems (many of which I agree exist) but gave no solutions).
5. Supreme Court: I think it is healthiest to have a balanced Supreme Court. It's most representative of the people. With Trump you have no idea what kind of person you would get. I think it is very likely conservatives are going to be disappointed here, as some of his earlier selections were completely unqualified (And we all know Trump has a tendency to change his positions day by day).
Look, I'm generally very respectful when it comes to politics. I understand, for example, how someone who passionately believes that abortion kills babies feels like she must vote Republican, even though I'm pro-choice. I disagree but do not condemn.
But this is not McCain/Obama, Romney/Obama, Gw Bush/Kerry, etc. These candidates had strong disagreements, there were certainly men I disliked personally, but I wouldn't feel like the country was less safe under them.
Trump, though, is not a rational choice. I'm fine with an outsider; I'd welcome a non-politician (would have voted Perrot if I was old enough). Trump is a reality show persona; his focus is not on America, or Americans; his focus is on Trump.
Do you really trust Trump not to alienate and offend our allies?
Is he the guy you want to be able to control our weapons?
Is Donald Trump the kind of man you want your daughter or son to marry, or even worse, to become?
I don't expect to convince anyone, but, for the first time, after hearing what Trump vaguely says he wants for our country, I find myself judging those who say that they will vote for him. And the America Trump wants is filled with judgement, even hatred. In my view, there's no worse direction to move.
I'm (reluctantly and by default) with Her.

Re: If the election was today?
Some people haven't looked at the big picture. I mean step the hell back and really see the larger longer term picture. Just facts, no emotion. It is painfully obvious, like it or not, what needs to be done to protect the safety of our next generation.
This is not only about your own home and isolated experiences on 111 Whatever St, Long Island, NY. Those of you too disgusted to make the right and moral choice with your vote, will you sleep at night? Who would you tell your young kids to vote for and why(if they were old enough to vote)?

If the election was today?
Haaaaaa... And I'm sure all those inner-city registered Dems (if they're even registered), and those most reliant on government benefits are some of the most highly educated Americans.

You literally just did the same thing that she did and made a huge generalization about one group of people...
My comment has nothing to do with my vote, by the way.

Re: If the election was today?
Attending school for a longer period of time does not necessarily make a person more educated, intelligent, etc.; that assumption allows for a rather limited definition of "educated" as well.
As I said in my previous post, my comments are detached from my vote.

I can't believe that people have the energy to go back and forth on this. It's been months now on LIF. I barely even go on the FHF board anymore because it's the same people, same threads, same arguments over and over. How is this enjoyable?

It''s not laughable - it's sad - how you resort to blaming inner-city Dems and "those most reliant on government benefits" - real "educated" of you. I can read between the lines of what you're insinuating.

You honestly had no comment on that disgusting reply on the education of most trump supporters? Not just in general, but on this forum? But you just couldn't hold back replying to someone who had a negative comment about democrats - are you serious right now ?
Some people on these threads, and this includes you kitten, seem to only jump down the throats of anyone who ever has an opinion different than your own. And I mean JUMP down their throat. Not debate
It's really annoying to be honest. I learn nothing new from this type of back and forth. It just makes me wish LIF had an unfollow button so I can skip the replies I wish I didn't read
ETA: I just read your next reply and see you were jumping to the defense of the minority community that you automatically assumed that last PP was talking about. yes. I know. It's your own personal crusade to let all Of the world know of your white guilt and how if no other person a shade lighter than the next doesn't feel it, they are racist

I am not going to comment on anyone's intelligence nor do I wish to insult anyone. This is where I like to chat about travel, food, books, social issues, etc. and I would like to be able to continue that.
However, I will say this as I have been thinking it for a while - I see a LOT more thoughtful analysis of the candidates and issues on the left than on the right.
I have seen a lot more people talking about Hillary's and Bernie's plans and the merits of each and discuss exactly what Trump will do that is so problematic.
But on the right? "Everything's horrible, Hillary suckks, I'm voting Trump." Well ok, what does that mean? What do you think is so horrible, and how do you think Trump can fix it?
I have seen, over and over, people on the right presented with facts that refute what they say and they either go quiet or continue the same inanities.
Again, I'm talking about all social media, and FWIW I am NOT talking about all posters, just certain ones.

Wow. this is a close race. I know this site is mainly made up of women. From the people I talk to, men are most likely to vote Trump and many women go towards Clinton from what I have seen. VERY close.
