Re: If you could leave work at any time in your pregnancy, without it hurting your maternity leave...
Because of my class this year, right now. I swear, my baby is going to flinch if he ever hears some of the names!
But really, I think 36 weeks would be reasonable. My coworker is at 37 right now and is just miserable. I'm really feeling for her.

If I had to do it over again, I would still work until exactly when I did. I worked up until my EDD. I was 6 days late and those were the six longest days of my pregnancy! I hated being home and was begging DH to drive me in to work every day! lol

Re: If you could leave work at any time in your pregnancy, without it hurting your maternity leave...
Not working now but with my 1st pregnancy I worked until the baby was born which was 37 weeks. I planned to go 39 weeks but at the end changed it to 38 weeks only because I was having some complications. Even with the commute for 1.5hrs to NYC and working late hours I didn't mind working to the end and couldn't imagine being home. I did try to limit my hours to close to 9-5 towards the end after having pre-term labor. My GD nutritionalist kept urging me to stop work early b/c she thought stress was what caused/worsened my diabetes but it was so controlled by diet changes (so low my OB thought maybe I didn't have it) that my OB and I didn't see me going out early necessary. Honestly if I were home I would have gone stir crazy and even my OB was liek - what you want to sit home and just gain weight and wait? I agreed.

Today!!!! ....... almost 34 weeks.
But I'll try to go the distance. Being home without a paycheck is no fun.
Last time I worked up until the day I delivered - 37.5 weeks.

Ditto...I was due on a Sunday, worked up to the friday before and had the baby the next Sunday. While having the week off was ok...waiting for the baby was torture! next time I want to work closer to or up to whenever the baby is born.
ETA: I work a desk job, M-F 8-4:30 with an hour drive each way...if I used public transportation or worked longer hours and a more physical job my answer would probably be different.

I agree with you Tilde. When I was pregnant the first time around, It was the dead of summer & I started my maternity leave a week & a half before I delivered. Blazing heat & humidity + 9 months pregnant and swollen = HELL

i am thinking of going out at 35 weeks...instead of 37...i do not want to commute to NYC in this weather and i am ridiculously uncomfy now...it will not effect my maternity leave. I get 7 months from the day the baby is born and can use sick time 6 weeks before... .
You have the best leave I've ever seen!
don't be mistaken...it's only paid for b/c i will be using accruals at half time and took a 20% reduction while pregnant to tack on to my maternity leave. You get 7 months, but they do not pay you for it unless you have the time banked...

Re: If you could leave work at any time in your pregnancy, without it hurting your maternity leave...
If money wasn't an issue then I would LIKE to be done in another month or so. (I'm 27 wks now). I'm a preschool teacher and I work in a room with some very difficult 2-3 yr olds. Right now i'm ok, but I can feel myself consistently getting more & more worn out, tired, and achy. They are very demanding children. However, I will probably end up working up until a week or 2 before my due date (if I'm lucky).

Now! hahaha
In all seriousness, I would say at 32 weeks. That way I have time to get my life and house in order before the baby comes.

This is what mine is too. 7 months is great but I don't have that much time to charge! LOL
That said. I would leave now. I'm so uncomfortable sitting in my chair everyday and if I don't choke the old bag next to me it will be a miracle.

My last day is this Friday - I will be 36w1d. If I totally had my way, I would probably have stopped working at about 34 weeks.

Re: If you could leave work at any time in your pregnancy, without it hurting your maternity leave...
I might be a minority here by saying this, but I would work until I started to feel uncomfortable. Fortunately I have been having an excellent pregnancy so getting up and working all day has not bothered or affected me at all. I don't mind working, it actually gets me up and doing something, or I would probably just be sitting home watching tv or out with friends spending money. But I wish I had the luxury to leave as soon as I started to feel uncomfortable, but unfortunately I will be working until the very end.
