Greek -so I could understand what my husband and his family are talking about when they get together.
Same here! Then I can shut my darling MIL up when she makes her rude comments.

Actually, that's the reason I wouldn't want to speak Spanish, I have no desire to know what they are saying. BEsides, the more people are able to speak Spanish, the more it will encourage some to never bother learning English.
what incredibly offensive blanket statements to make....
I agree. how about all the other languages that are spoken in this country, you can't discriminate.

this is probably one of the most ignorant statements ive ever read here.
How do YOU know what encourages people to learn English or not? How do YOU know people coming to this country arent trying to learn?
Do YOU know this country doesnt have an official language?

I would love to know how to speak Greek so that my fil would stop trying to teach me the language everytime he sees me.
He was giving me lessons when we were planning the wedding but with homework
I want to learn it, but without the homework

I understand Italian.. but I would like to be 100% proficient. I come from a very traditional italian family- also married into one and they speak Sicilian dialect.

Definitely Spanish. Besides English, it's the one I hear the most in the USA.
