If you cruised with your kids...can I ask you why?
In the starting mode of cruise planning with our friends we grew up with.
5 couples, we are the only ones with kids.
Couples say bring kids, we are oos...so they really never see our kids.
DH says no. He doesn't want to bring josh to a cruise ship dr if he has a bad asthma week.
he also doesn't want me to hate him the entire time on the ship while I have the kids and he has a drink.
Couples offered disney cruise...dh said no way, we need to gamble and he won't put kids in a camp anyway.
So, do i call my parents and have them stay at my house and leave the kids behind? This is what I want to do...but I want to be 100% sure before my parents start planning their lives around this.
Reason I would bring my kids:
the family vaca experience. I feel slightly funny leaving them out. They love the beach and are really easy going.

We're bringing our kids bc like you, they are easy going and already go where we go. I think they will enjoy being with us, although we are going just us 4, not with friends.

I ask, when was the last time you and dh went anywhere for any length of time sans the kids? If its longer then 1 year, go csll the grandparents, turn off the parent button and drink, relax, get laid, and enjoy it. You wont be able to relax 100% with them, you will be bothered if dh checks out for a drink, rock climb whatever, its totally normal. I say enjoy it and have a kickasss time.

yeah, before jessie, we would go away for 2 nights everytime my parents were in town and it was great.
just feel funny taking the big vacation fund for the year on a cruise instead of disney.
I am a big drinker, gambler also...so I can't really imagine having these kids on the boat either...I am never a victim of mommy guilt, but i am feeling twinges coming on

I think it's a great idea. My sister has been cruising for years now with my parents who'll look after the kids and get a free vacation out of it. My sister and her hubby are able to relax more and not feel guilty about asking the parents to look after the kids or leaving the kids at home. It's a win win situation!

brought my mother on a cruise once....she was more work then my kids could ever be
i think i am just leaving them at home. they have a nice life. some kids never make it to disney.
if my dh still wants me alone on our 10th year of marriage, then i guess i better go and not look back.

I think vacations with the kids are great and I think that vacations without the kids are good too! Don't feel guilty if you don't take them. Instead, look at it as an investment in your marriage. And then plan the next vacation that will include them.

I say go without them. I'd be paranoid being on a cruise with my kids.

agreed! DH and I went to Jamaica in January w/friends and left DS home with my IL's. It was sad to be away from him for 6 days, but it was sooooo great to have FUN with my DH and just reconnect! if you're lucky enough to have family that's willing to stay w/LO's I say go for it!!

ITA with this. DH and I are taking our first real "child-free" vacation this summer. We feel as though we're so caught up in the day-to-day "just trying to get by" that we've lost track of US.
I can't wait...I'm so excited!
