We have always rented a house in the disney area.
ETA: you can rent an entire house for like $900 wtih your own private pool/jacuzzi, kitchen its sooo worth it and so much cheaper than doing a disney hotel.

We always stay on Disney but in the Value resorts. Love them...clean decent sized rooms, buses to Disney and free shuttle to and from airport.

We usually stay offsite at the Sheraton Vistana Villages.
It's very close and it's nice because they are villas with full kitchens.

you can do both. the website is very easy to use.
We used a travel agent but the website is the same prices and such, the travel agent just answers your questions. Also you can call and book or ask questions!
imo- it is the best thing to do, you dont have to rent a car, pay for parking etc. They pick you up from the airport in a big bus, they bring you to the hotel and you get shuttles all day to and from all parks. If you add a meal plan on to it saves you money also! Good Luck!

Do you want to stay in disney? If you don't mind staying a few minutes outside i'd find a hotel that has suite style rooms (1 or 2 bedrooms) so you and DH can hang out once the baby is in bed.
We went last month and stayed at the WorldQuest Orlando Resort, it was a 3-bedroom suite and was only $135/night plus I think a few dollars a day for room cleaning if you want it. It was like living in a condo and only a few mins from magic kingdom, included breakfast too.

I believe pop century is the newest, or the movie one. Any of the all star ones are great! the disney website gives descriptions of each so you can choose. I liked the movie one bc my dc is obsessed with toy story! lol

I usually call up Disney directly or go to their website. But before go to mousesavers.com...they have codes for Disney hotels that take percentages off and show you the deals available.

Yup Pop is my fave but I've also down Sports and it's nice too.
ETA: You can get great deals off property also but if you're going to Orlando to just do Disney IMO it's better to stay on property. If you stay off property you have to rent a car (added expense) plus pay for parking ($15 a day per park I think) and gas, etc. You can still rent a car when you stay on property (although if you're just doing Disney IMO it's not necessary) but the difference is if you are staying on Disney Property you get a FREE parking pass so you can park at any one of the parks for free.

yeah the values (all stars and pop century) are the cheapest, basic type hotel rooms. Not over priced imo.

Re: If you have been to Disney world -where did you stay? need a hotel that is not overpriced
I haven't stayed at the value hotels on Disney property, but heard that Pop Century is nice because it has its own bus, where the other value resorts share the buses. This could cut down on your time on the bus to and from the parks.

I did this once and HATED it. I'd rather stay at the Best Western on Orange Blossom Trail (done that too)
I've been a few times and I'm going back again in Oct. I'm staying at Port Orleans - French Quarter. Moderate priced. Small property so I'm not walking a million miles to the bus (like I did at Pop) and its on the river (so its somehow cooler), the boat ride is the downtown disney (which is a nice ride and downtown disney not a park so its more relaxed for us) also the first stop on and off of the buses to and from the parks as well. Love ground transportation from Disney to the hotel and our stuff is in our room. I stay on campus for the meal plan, lack of paying for parking and ease of travel (Sending your trinkets back to your room instead of lugging them around at the parks).
ETA: We are staying 6days and 5nights, we got an upgrade on our room to face the river (for AJ), we upgraded our meal plan for a sit down, quick serve and snack, got tickets for all days we are there, and AJ is free (under 3) its costing us around $2100.

They have shuttles but, we found it easier to rent a car. We usually rent through Dollar.

I have to agree that the Pop Century IS a long walk at the park as they are the last bus stop. For the money, it was worth it at that time and overall it was a nice hotel. This time was are staying at the GF so not sure if I will be able to go back to Pop after that-lol

Re: If you have been to Disney world -where did you stay? need a hotel that is not overpriced
stayed at all star movies...my DD and DS are OBSESSED with Toy story and the values were perfect for us when every day we got to walk under a 3-story-size buzz and woody!!!!!!
We didnt rent a car.didnt need to! We did GREAT on the buses..never waited more that 5 minutes for one!
We also didnt have to worry about lugging 2 carseats either which was a BIG bonus for us!
If you are not looking for luxurious accommodations..the values are great! No problems here! I figured I would splurge when the kids are older and dont "need" a park right outside their window!
Cant beat $89 a night!
ETA: booked right online..and called up a couple of times to adjust - based on promo codes

Sounds awesome, but 1 question - do the busses have car seats? I've never taken DD on a bus before.
