I agree. It does balance things a little bit. though probably not completely.

Unfortunately since DH is a NYC employee he has to continue to pay the NYC income tax. So for us its a double whammy (on his salary at least)

Re: If you live in a "good" school district...

We live in a decent district (Sayville) and are at about 7500 with STAR exemption. We have a bit more than a quarter acre. My gf lives in the same district but closer to the water and a much bigger house & property (maybe 3/4 of an acre). She pays 14000 with STAR.

I just can't begin to imagine paying more than 10M in taxes unless it was the most amazing home ever.

Oceanside which is a good district (very similar to RVC) and our taxes are little less than 8,000 with star (but we don't really have any deductions)

District 25. Great schools.

Depends on where you live but the Zone HS's are either Bayside or Flushing High School.

Bayside is preferred by most, and is a great school with really good programs.

I do not kinow as much about Flushing HS but I they do not have a good reputation, although this is not always the best way to judge Chat Icon

In the city you also have the option to apply to 12 HS programs (in any school Cardozo, Francis Lewis, Townsend Harris etc) it is very competive.

Also they have a Specialzied HS exam with 7 schools (Stuyvesant, Bronx Science etc.)

I know a lot about the process so feel free to FM Chat Icon

are you saying Bayside is in District 25? It is in District 26.

But I agree - its a great school. Flushing isn't as great. (DH actually has taught at both. He prefers Bayside)

district 26 $2,600.

sure, rub it in Queens Chat Icon

DH drives around bayside looking for a knockdown we could afford.

I live in this area as well and used to think the same thing until I realized due to city income tax DH and I pay more bw real estate and city taxes then some towns in LI Chat Icon

So if we decide to move to LI it would probably equal out and the homes are more affordable (in the area we are looking compared to the area we live now).

I agree. For us, the extra amount we pay in city income tax due to living in Queens is RIDICULOUS. It evens out the fact that we have slightly lower property taxes (although those keep rising as well) than the suburbs.

Thats true - I always forget about the NYC tax. Chat Icon
