Sorry. How about Whitestone?
District 25. Great schools.
Depends on where you live but the Zone HS's are either Bayside or Flushing High School.
Bayside is preferred by most, and is a great school with really good programs.
are you saying Bayside is in District 25? It is in District 26.
But I agree - its a great school. Flushing isn't as great. (DH actually has taught at both. He prefers Bayside)
Bayside HS serves D26 and D25 residents. It the zone HS for parts of D25 and parts of D 26.
D26 zone HS's are also Cardozo, Francis Lewis, Martin Van Buren.
D25 had multiple schools as well including but not limited to Flushing and Bayside.
It depends on your street address. You can live on one side of the street and have Bayside and across the street is Francis Lewis--crazy!
Bayside's actual district is District 77 (HS district code).

Re: If you live in a "good" school district...
diamondgirl - I'll save space by not quoting - thanks for that explanation! DH is a teacher in Bayside and they say they are in 26, but there are a lot of kids from flushing that go there, so as you explained its not easy to figure out!!
to the OP - sorry for our tangent - but those taxes are nuts. If you were getting a 1/2 acre with that size house in westchester I would think that would be OK - but if you dont have enough private outdoor space I would not pay those taxes

district 26 $2,600.
sure, rub it in Queens
DH drives around bayside looking for a knockdown we could afford.
I live in this area as well and used to think the same thing until I realized due to city income tax DH and I pay more bw real estate and city taxes then some towns in LI
So if we decide to move to LI it would probably equal out and the homes are more affordable (in the area we are looking compared to the area we live now).
city tax (over 9K for us) and spending 200k+ more on a similar home in Queens/ vs nassau
we are looking in Nassau now

Re: If you live in a "good" school district...
It really depends on the home too. My brothers live 4 blocks from each other and pay VERY different taxes. Both in Bohemia, Connetquot schools, both have a full basement, both on 1/2 acre
Bro#1 bought 3 bedroom ranch, added on to make it a 4 bedroom colonial with huge great room, 1/2 acre NO pool, taxes are 12,000ish
Bro#2 bought a 3 bedroom ranch on 1/2 acre, he fully updated it all but did not expand, also on 1/2 acre, Taxes are 7,000ish

That sounds like Scarsdale taxes. We looked there for a while and ended up buying in Great Neck. Great Neck was a bargain compared to Scarsdale.

we are looking in Rye Brook, and it's low on a house if the taxes are $15k. I know Rye and Rye Brook are different-- I wonder if it's the same school district, which is very good.
But the taxes up there are insanity.

Re: If you live in a "good" school district...
district 27 (in Howard Beach) $3K
the public school by our house now goes from K-8th grade, thank goodness or we would send our kids to a private elementary school. our plan (if we're still here at that point), would be to send our kids to a private high school (or hopefully to one of the top NYC picks if he/she studies more like mommy and not daddy!
I was born & raised in D27 (S. Ozone Park), went to public school my whole life (including lovely John Adams)...I was in advanced placement classes though, so I kind of think (as in any school) it's all who you associate with and what choices you make. but obviously no one wants their child to be the only AWESOME student in a crappy school lol I would most definitely not send my future children to John Adams (if it even stays open!!)
