Re: If you were to move off of Long Island
My newest obsession is the idea of moving to Utah.. the IBEW book list is low and promising, the cost of living in some areas is lower than here and the unemployment rate is lower as well so I might be able to get a job. Virginia has been another consideration.
Challenge? Rob just won't move.

Re: If you were to move off of Long Island
I've lived in Queens my whole life, and I truly love it.
If we were to move, it'd be either Montreal (which we seriously considered a few years back) or somewhere in the northwest USA...Seattle, Portland.
But really, I've yet to find a place that I love as much as Queens....there is no place like it.

North Carolina. Warmer than LI, but not as hot as Georgia. Far enough north to avoid most hurricanes. Still close to all of the NY stuff.
Agreed...and it doesn't hurt that my sister lives there too!

Probably Florida. But I have this strange desire to close my eyes and point to a random place on the map and pack up and go. I want that small town feel.....

Re: If you were to move off of Long Island
Stateside: I'd like to move to the Pacific Northwest or San Diego. DH isn't opposed, but he loves his job so that makes it hard to leave.
I'd really like to move to England, but DH isn't as on board with that one.

Re: If you were to move off of Long Island
Realistically I can't move too far from the city because my DH is union there so a nice area of Ct or Westchester which would cost me sooooo much more than what we are paying now. In my dreams North Dakota on a horse ranch

If you were to move off of Long Island
If cost of living isn't an issue: California especially San Diego North Virginia , Outside of DC Chevy Chase / Silver Springs MD Farfield County CT
Factoring in cost of living : North Carolina ( either the Charlotte or Raleigh Durham areas) Virginia ( either outside of Richmond or near Charlottesville
ETA:I don't live in L.I I live in a gorgeous area of NJ and we love our town However, the property taxes are nuts and the housing prices aren't much better, so we will probably leave.

South Florida. Either Palm City (my hometown) or Jensen Beach. We are moving when DH retires in 10 years.

Re: If you were to move off of Long Island
I married a Brit and moved to Manchester, England 13 years ago. I love it here, howev if I won the lottery I would think about moving back to the states. The cost of living here is relatively high, but I believe that the quality of life is fantastic for me. One big thing is the NHS, we live about 20 minutes drive from the most fantastic countryside, the variey of landscape is amazing, and we can drive to mainland Europe, even though we never have! Lol. What keeps me here are the amazing people, I love the Northern sense of humour, wit and self deprecation. I think Britain is a great place to bring up kids, there is so much stuff orientated towards families and young people, not to mention the maternity benefits. And, my husband just called me and told me he was in a place called Ramsbottom...lol, and I live near a place called Penistone, another called the Devils Arse, and Knobend. Hilqrious.
If I moved back to the states, I would go somewhere like Bucks County Pa. Remember I said I would only move back if I won the lottery!

If you were to move off of Long Island
If it were up to me, I'd move to Virginia, Delaware or North Carolina. If it were up to DH, he'd want to move to FL in a heartbeat

I went to England when I was in high school and I loved it! I am a social worker and for awhile I was looking for social work jobs in England after I graduated....I wasn't really going to move there but it was a dream of mine I would love to at least go back there to visit and def to live there!!
