Re: if your dc needed ear tubes..
My DD had 14 ear infections by 1 1/2. It was awful. Every time she got off the antibiotics, she got another one. She got tubes at 20 months old and she did not get another ear infection for a year. She's only had one so far...keeping fingers crossed. The operation itself was very easy and quick. Went in and were the first appointment. It took a total of about 1/2 hour between putting her under and getting back in to see her awake. Went home and had to put drops in her ears for a few days (don't remember exactly) and she was fine (no pain or anything afterwards) actually was playing and acting normal the same day. We even went for breakfast at the diner right afterwards. The anticipation was the worst part of it. Good luck!

Re: if your dc needed ear tubes..
Mig, thanks so much for posting! We are about to go through this with DS. He has had around 6-7 ear infections in the past year (some of them doubles) so we took him to an ENT and we are scheduled for the procedure next Friday.
OP, has your pediatrician expressed concern about the constant ear infections? Maybe they will refer you to an ENT so you can get a better idea of what you're dealing with. Good luck!

Re: if your dc needed ear tubes..
My dd started with ear infections at 5 months old. She had 9 double ear infections in less than a year. It was horrible. She always vomited with ear infections, screamed hysterical as soon as she would lay down, she was constantly tugging at her ear, sometimes she would scratch at them so much she would cut her ears and bleed. It was a vicious cycle. She had constant fluid and had hearing loss.
Dr. wanted to do tubes at 10 months but I was too afraid to put her under anesthesia. I took her for a 2nd opinion and the dr wanted to wait until she was at least 20lbs to put her under. We ended up having to cancel surgery 2x because my dd has asthma and they wouldn't put her under while she was on steroids.
Finally at 17 months she had the tubes put in and it was a miracle. She did have one double ear infection after the tubes but has been fine since. No more antibiotics, no more screaming and vomiting. She was like a new baby, her speech took off, her hearing improved, she slept through the night finally. It was the best decision for her.

This sounds like my daughter to a 'T'. we are scheduled for surgery 4/9. In additiion, to the above, she gets ridiculously high fevers (read:105) when she gets the infections. She also pulls at her ears and the insides are all cut up. I am so nervous for the surgery, but know it will be the best thing for her. She had 9 infections in one year and 12 in fections int he past 18 months. Her last infection preforated her eardrum.
