I'm going to be a mommy in less than a week...C-Section scheduled need some info about them...
I just got back from the dr. and we talked about possibly going in for a C-Section because of the large cyst on my ovary. He was worried about it compromising my ovary while in labor and regardless I have to have it removed so it's kinda like killing two birds with one stone. So I'm scheduled for this Sunday 7/17 instead of 7/24!!!
I was so convinced that I wouldn't need a C-Section that I skipped all information regarding one that now I'm clueless on it...figures Can anyone give me any insight on a C-Section...what does it feel like? How is the recovery? Anything information you'd like to give...

Re: I'm going to be a mommy in less than a week...C-Section scheduled need some info about them...
Everyone is different in their experiences. I have had two. My first with DS was after being in labor all night and the next day and three hours of pushing. I was in alot of pain but nothing that wasn't manageable with the pain meds. I was up walking as soon as they took out my catheter (slowly and with help), but walking nonetheless. This is SOOOOOO IMPORTANT!! As soon as they give you the ok to get up and try to walk, do it. You don't have to walk long, but get up and move, this will help your recovery immensely. But really by the time I was home from the hospital I was just very uncomfortable but was no longer in pain.
My 2nd with my younger DS was scheduled. Such a difference. I only used the motrin that they gave me, never even needed the pain meds. Was fine walking around the hospital floor and felt pretty normal by the time I got home, I still took it easy ( I didn't want to be stupid and pop my stitches) but definitely could have done anything at that point I wanted. I'm not trying to sound like a rock star or anything, just saying that your recovery depends on your body and how it reacts. Now ask me how I am when I stub my toe and it's a whooooole different story.
Hopefully your c goes smoothly and your recovery is relatively pain free!

Thank you for the info. I've never had any sort of medical procedure done let alone had to stay ovenight so I'm a bit nervous. I like to think I have a high tolerance of pain so hopefully I'll be ok. I just don't want to be on any crazy pain meds cause I get nauseous and sick feeling on them.

Neither had I so I was surprised at how "well" I did, for lack of a better word. It was not easy, not at all, but it was manageable. And the pain meds made me feel like such garbage the first time around that I was so happy I didn't need them the second time. But here's the thing with the pain and the meds. Once you really start to feel the pain, it will be a few hours after the surgery, you'll think ok, this isn't so bad, and then all of a sudden it will get alot worse very quickly. So if you start to feel pain and it really really hurts, take the meds because it get even worse after that and if you get to that point without the meds it's much harder to then make the pain go away. This is how I was the first time so I took them, even though they made me feel yucky. Luckily the second time around the pain never even got that bad that Motrin couldn't handle it. Good Luck!

The strongest thing I took was Motrin. Right after I had my section I told them I don't tolerate any pain meds. They make me so sick. They can give you something to keep you from feeling sick. I got morphine in my IV after I delivered DS. I was given Zofran before my section to cut back on nausea. It worked. The night of my section, I had Tylenol. They asked me if I wanted something stronger and I said no. After I ate the next morning, I had Motrin. I only needed it at night.. It really isn't bad. They had me up the next morning. Pain was bearable...

Re: I'm going to be a mommy in less than a week...C-Section scheduled need some info about them...
I had 2 scheduled c/s with both my sons. Both were great experiences. 1- had a spinal. Was scheduled for early Am. Went into the OR at 9:20, DS was born at 9:54. Threw up in the OR during surgery. I was able to hold DS from the OR to the recovery room when they took him for his testing and cleaning up and got my pain meds set up. Next day was up walking around. Sore but not horrible. After they took me off the morphine pump, I never took pain meds more than motrin and at that I only took it 1x per day. 1 week after felt about 75%, With in 2 weeks felt 100%.
2- had epi was scheduled for 3:30 didnt have DS until 8:41pm due to my surgery getting pushed back. Was a crazy busy day in the mat ward that day I think 10 babies were born. In the OR I had more side effects from teh epi but nothing crazy. I had hte dry heaves, shivers, itchy... I was up walking around by 9 am the next morning. I took pain meds this time but not too often. I used to take them at night before bed to help me get comfortable and sleep. And this time I actually ahd DH fill my script for pain killers took them 2 days and that was it. Recovery was a little faster , probably felt 100% by 10 days out.
You cant eat after midnight the night before your surgery so #2 was rough because DS wasnt born until 8:41 and then you do liquid for a few hours after. So I was starving. Around 2am I asked the nurse for crackers! YOu get alot of gas after wards so dont be shy, pass that gas!! Get up and walk as much as possible. After they let you out of bad try not to lay down much. Sit up walk around, take is slow but some movement is good. Also try to rest as much as possible. In both cases I sent DSs to the nursery at night and I slept like a baby. With DS#2 I told them to feed him the first night becasue I was so wiped out and I truly think the rest helped in my recovery. If you are trying BF, dotn worry. I formula fed DS for all 3 days in the hospital, he only latched 1x, but yet I am still BF at 12 weeks PP.
GL!! In my experience the anxiety leading up to the c/s is worse than the c/s

Re: I'm going to be a mommy in less than a week...C-Section scheduled need some info about them...
I just had a C Section 2 weeks ago today.
They had to put me to sleep for it because the epi's weren't working and I could feel everything. I think you will be asleep as well for it if you are having a cyst removed in your ovary??? not positive though.
Basically they laid me on the table, put the sheet up and "tested" to see what I could feel. I was yelling "i can feel that" over and over again. They made the decision to put me under.
When I woke up... I was in recovery. I barely remember that part other than to say DH was there showing me pics of our baby girl and a little video he took in the few short minutes he had with her. Basically he got to sit outside the room and heard her first scream. While they were preparing to take her to the NICU (for gestational diabetes reasons) they let him hold her.
She eventually passed all the NICU tests and was moved to the regular nursery.
I don't know how long I was out for or how long i was in recovery for but it was a good 6+ hours after the surgery that I got to see my baby girl for the first time and that was as they wheeled my bed passed the nursery as someone pointed her out to me. I was on my way to my room. A few minutes later they brought her into my room to me to see her for the first time.
When we originally thought I would be awake for the procedure they gave me a quick run down of how the baby part would go... basically as soon as they took her out they were going to hold her up to show her to us and then wisk her off to the NICU for testing... if she failed she'd stay in NICU for whatever necessary timeframe and if she passed she goes to the regular nursery. I would have been able to see her sooner... not just from them holding her up but since I would have been conscious they would have brought me to the nursery/nicu sooner. Since they had to put me under it took longer for me to see her for the first time.
The recovery... I won't lie... the first few days it was HARD!! It was hard to get up out of bed and to move and to hold and shift her from lets say my left side to my right side. BUT the MOST IMPORTANT thing is to get up and move ASAP! I went for little walks starting the day after the C section. At first getting up and walking hurt ... but a few minutes later and it felt better. You just have to fight through it and take the walks!! Each day I got a little better. They also gave me a "belly bandit" sort of thing to help with my muscles.. I wore this day and night and still wear it. The longer I was in bed, the harder it was to get out of bed. SO I highly recommend getting up and walking around as often as you can. Don't try to bend or lift anything. And don't carry anything heavy at all. Don't reach for anything either. I brought the boppy pillow to the hospital and was SO GLAD I did because it really helped with feeding her after having a C.
I had a catheter for a few days... and before the procedure I would have been nervous for this... but honestly... it was NOTHING at all so don't even worry about it. Ha and I was thankful to not have to get up to pee for those first 2 days... getting up and peeing hurt.
The wound has felt pretty numb the majority of the time... all the pain was in my abs.. which is a few inches above the wound. They used staples for me.... so a week later I needed them taken out. I was def ready to have them taken out!! Taking them out didn't hurt at all!! I was just happy to have them out!!!
The hospital will give you pain meds while you are there if you ask for them. I had 6 bags of morphine the day of and they did NOTHING for me at all so I switched to percocet. I was also BFing and they let me have pain meds.
I'm sure there's more if I think of it.... but I feel like I wrote A LOT so far. If you have any questions please feel free to FM me. Good Luck!!

Re: I'm going to be a mommy in less than a week...C-Section scheduled need some info about them...
I had a bad experience after my csection because of high blood pressure but the csection itself was not bad. The only thing I would warn against is letting a student be in there doing most of the work - this happened with me. I'm all for learning and everything but she took FOREVER! So long that I couldn't see DD in recovery - they had to send her for all of her tests and to have some formula even though I wanted to BF because it took so long. I would up being able to see her hours later in recovery but it still su cked!
Also, everytime someone asks me about a csection I bring up something gross that no one tells you about. You will have the WORST gas pains of your life after the csection. The nurses will ask you if you've passed gas yet and at first you'll be embarassed and think what an odd question to ask. And then later you will be in AGONY! I was so scared to push when I felt the gas pains because of the incision. What really helped me was walking and drinking hot water with lemon. Drink as much as possible. You will never think you'll feel so happy to fart! I was telling EVERYONE after I was able to pass gas!

Best adviceis to get up and walk as soon as you get the ok. It helps your body heal faster. I had 2 and recovery from the 2nd was cake compared to the first.
Way tmi - but once you go to the bathroom, #2, you will feel 1000000000x better.
Just take it easy afterward, don't try to do too much.

Peppermint tea helps with the gas. With my #2 Iliad and said I did because I was starving and had to eat. I don't know that I would recommend that, but I didn't care at that point.

Each one’s experience is different but I just want to tell you that any pain you might experience is NOTHING compared to the joy of holding your little bundle of joy in your arms! I think more than the c-section, I had a hard time with post-operative restrictions! I felt absolutely fine two weeks after the surgery but the doctor advised me not to do any housework for at least 4 weeks; driving after childbirth (after c-section) is recommended only after 3 weeks. I did walk a lot – and I would recommend a lot of that – stand up straight, wear a good pair of shoes, walk and try to hold your abdomen in for as long as you can. Walking will help avoid constipation and generally help you recover faster, but don’t exert yourself and stop when you feel tired.
