I'm probably wrong in being annoyed.. but need to vent!
we live across from a Church and live on a corner. The street facing the church only allows parking for services etc. this is fine and we truly dont mind the amount of cars parked on infront and side of our house (especially on Sundays) there is only a small parking lot for the church and it is only during services. The enitre streets near the church are filled with cars.
When we moved in we realized that there was always one car parked on the side of our house. We have a very long side and the car would park further towards the back of the house so not really in our way of parking for our own house (we currently only have a 1 car driveway). We realized that this person works at a place around the block from us. It sort of annoyed us that he needs to park on the side of our house everyday when the place that he works has a large parking lot, but we dealt with it.
Now we have been noticing that same car and ANOTHER car are parking on the side of our house and tis is pretty much everyday and even sometimes on the weekends (it depends on their schedules I guess). We KNOW this person also works at the SAME place (she wears a tshirt from the store).
DH and I are starting to get annoyed. Dont bash me... I know that I dont own the street and they arent hurting anyone or anything, but it is ridiculous because they HAVE a parking lot. Plus I keep thinking that is everyone that works there going to start parking here?
Would this annoy you as well?

i'd be annoyed but also wonder if their employer has asked them to not park in the parking lot at the business to save it for customers. when I worked in retail, we were asked to park elsewhere and save the lot for the business for the customers. so perhaps that's why they're doing it?

Re: I'm probably wrong in being annoyed.. but need to vent!
The only reason why this doesnt/wouldnt annoy me is because I grew up in the city and dont understand this whole "snobbish" attitude LI seems to have when it comes to parking in front of one's house... Dont mean to flame you... Its just that coming from an area where getting a spot on your block was a miraculous event, lots of people from the island just dont see/appreciate how good they really do have it... That being said, Im sure no one in their right mind would NOT park in their jobs parking lot if it werent for a very good reason... I just cant see why anyone at work would want to walk further to and from their job.... UNLESS they have one hell of a car that they dont want damaged in a parking lot.... Be grateful that its only on the side of your house and not inconviencing you and your family! Now if there was no where else to park, then I'd be raising hell

I thought this too.. and it may be the reason, but both having to park on that side one after the other just makes me mad because I should be able to park there and walk up to my house and not have to park further down, I think it is more annoying because we are already strapped for parking when chuch has service and I find it inconsiderate.

I totally see your point and I am a teacher in queens and understand what that is like (finding parking stiinks) but people are just as inconsiderate there as well (ie: taking up the space with one car that 2 cars can park in) but I live on LI for a reason, I dont want to deal with that where I live.
It is just annoying to me that there is a whole entire street and both these employees have to park on the side of my house?
But again, i know that it is silly but i just cant help but b!tch everytime i see them parking there.

Re: I'm probably wrong in being annoyed.. but need to vent!
I hear you. It does annoy me too. My DH parks in front of our house and sometimes someone else will park there (kid across the street, his gf) and DH then has to park in front of someone else's house.
I am not "snobbish", I am allowed to hate on people who park in front of my home. I wouldn't do anything about it but I am allowed to hate on them.
Vent away sister!

Re: I'm probably wrong in being annoyed.. but need to vent!
Totally understandable.
When DH and I park every morning to take the train, we have park on a side street (it's actually a 10 min walk to the LIRR station because there is not nearly enough parking there, but that's another story ). We try to park in certain areas where we're not right infront of other people's houses (like there's a big stretch of fence between houses that we park infront of), and we park on a corner in front of a lot.
One day last year, i came back to my car and one woman came out of her house and very politely asked me to not park directly in front of her house because sometimes she was left parking down the block. I understood her point and said i'd definitely not park near her door if at all possible.
I know i'd be annoyed if i was those home owners and saw our cars out there every day, even though we do make an effort to not take their spaces.
Perhaps you could gently approach one of the people and ask them why they don't park in the lot for their store? If they say the employer doesn't allow them to, then ask them if they could make an effort to at least not park directly in front of your house as you've had times where you haven't been able to park there and its caused inconvenience. (if you have a DC, perhaps you could use that as an excuse too) I find that if you approach someone in a friendly manner you'll get further than if you go up to them and yell at them for parking in 'your' spot.
good luck!

you can be mad an annoyed but you really can't do anything about it. You can ask them not to park there but if someone asked me not to I'd probably do it just to p*ss them off.

I would be annoyed too, I'm territorial like that my mom and her hubby Fued w/ their next door neighbors bc they park in front of my mothers house even tho there is space open in front of their own because of them, I always have to park in front of the house next door. Verrrrrrry annoying !
I wouldn't say anything If I were in your situation but I would leave my car parked there I don't like confrontation but I don't want to be seething every day either

Re: I'm probably wrong in being annoyed.. but need to vent!
I'd probably be annoyed a bit..maybe more so if I had company or if I had no where to park myself. I don't get why people park smack in the middle and take up 2 spots either.
We are teritorial about parking on my block. We have just enough room for all our cars at our house and I hate coming home to find a neighbors guests in front of my house and then I have to park in front of another neighbors house.
I have actually come home with a friend of mine in my car and been like "who the heck parked in front of my house" only to realize that it's my friend's car
Yeah, yeah, we don't own the streets, but I don't think it's snobbish to expect some common courtesy. Vent away...

remember that our property taxes are much much higher here than in the city (i know queens for sure) and we want everything we can get out of it!

Maybe they want to park further from where they work because they want to walk and exercise a bit? Every step counts when you trying to lose some weight especially that Summer is coming up
