I'm scared to death of going outside now (now explained better)
After what happened last night I thought I was doing better. But now that's it's night again, I am scared to death to go out there. I'm especially afraid to go out with DS. What if that guy is still out there? Cops didn't find him. I can't wait til we have more daylight. 
I was confident to take an attacker, but if I have DS in my arms, how do I do it?

Honestly, I can imagine how nervous you would be...can you get is it "mace" on your keychain? do you have a panic button on your car?

I wish for a pnaic button. My car is so old they didn't have car alarms when I got it.  Hence why we are getting a new one soon. I have thought about the mace. We'll see how the next few nights are.
It's just that DH went to the store (he's back), but when we opened the door I felt the fear rush right through me. And I wasn't even going out.

Do you have a house alarm?
Get one with house key thingy. There is a panic button on it.
Also, try to leave your house at different times. 30 minutes early, 1 hour early. etc... change your schedule everyday. It's a PITA but people don't know when you are in an out and it's harder for them to follow you.

OMG I can't believe that happened!! How scary
I'm glad you and DS are ok!! Do you have sensor lights? I live upstate and it's very very dark all around my house and I put sensor lights in the back, on the side by the garage and over the front door. It really helps!! I also agree with mace. Can't hurt.
I hope he's long gone

That is such an uneasy feeling, I say there is no crime calling your local precinct and asking for a car to come by your house Hang in there, I truly feel horrible for you

in a situation like that i hold my cell and dial 911, keep your finger on the call button just incase...
bring a can of lysol to spray in his face...

Awww, I feel so bad for you. I can only imagine how scary it is.
Keep your phone in your hand or easily reachable if you can.
Do you have a panic button on your car alarm?
Have you spoken to your neighbors about it? Any of them interested in a neighborhood watch, or willing to keep an eye on you and DS when you have to leave for work?
Do you have pepper spray or anything? I know scary with a DC around, I don't know if I could carry it.

Geez, I'm so sorry. That's unfair, feeling unsafe in your own driveway. I'm sure he's long gone, especially after seeing the cops. Keep a phone with you at all times too.

So sorry this happened. Just last night I was wondering if there are people around when you arrive at work and have to get out of your car. I was not even thinking that something could happen as you leave the house. If you were not allergic, I'd say get a dog. Mine would go crazy if he saw a stranger approach me on or near our property.
ETA: I have a brilliant idea. We'll make a recording of my dog barking his head off. We'll blast it by your window as you go to your car.

I keep a whistle on my keychain and if I'm alone with the kids in a parking lot I keep it in my mouth so that if I need to get help I can just start blowing.
I don't blame you for being scared.

We have security that roams around our neighborhood in a car, so I might talk with them too. Trust me, we shake our schedule up every day. We don't even know what the other is working some days. We never have the same schedule one day to the next. So, that helps.
I can't help but wonder what the guy was doing. If he wanted to attack, he wouldn't have made his presence known right? Eh, who cares?
I did talk to one neighbor earlier today and we tried talking with another, but she wasn't home.
I suddenly realized I just didn't know what to do if I had DS in my arms. I've been in much worse situations when I worked in a news dept overnights. I was the one that went out alone to cover homicides, shootings, fires, etc. I was attacked a few times, but I knew how to defend with my tripod. (I was kick a$$!!) But with a baby it's an entirely different ballgame.

Well, the days of "wonder Kelly woman" are over. While you can protect yourself, removing yourself AND DS are key at this point. You can no longer expose yourself to those coverage.
I would keep a "weapon" of some sort with me. I have my keys ready at all time when I go anywhere with DS. I know I am paranoid but that's just the way I am/was even without DS. I was raised by a paranoid mom and I am constently aware of what is going on around me. You always hear about those wackos in parking lots even during the day time.
