I'm worried about our paper shredder?
We just received a big paper shredder as a gift from FIL. I'm worried about it with the kids. Anyone own one? Does it have special kid safety features?

They don't have any safety features that I am aware of....but we put ours in a closet when not using it and when we do...we put it on a counter and do it and when we are done...back in the closet...I would NEVER trust one of those to be out on the floor

My shredder automatically stops if anything touches the area around the blades. I actually tried to get my fingers close to the blade and it kept shutting off. That being said, it is unplugged when not in use.

We just keep our unplugged.
My friends DS did lose the tips of a few of his fingers in one when he was little, so bc of that...we ALWAYS keep it unplugged so it cant accidentally be turned on.

Ours is always unplugged and in our office. We also never use it when DC are nearby, or could pop in while we're using it, so they've never seen it in action. Don't want them to see what it does, and start shredding "scrap paper" (aka bills or checks) in it!

We keep ours unplugged and sort of "hidden" next to the desk in the office. Also, DD has never seen us use it, so she hasn't tried to imitate us using it.

Ours has a safety feature. There is a button that needs to be pressed down in order for anything to be shredded. If the button isn't pressed, it doesn't shred. Even still, we keep it unplugged when it isn't in use.

I have always had it and I have 2 toddles. The shredder is always unplugged if not in use and is set on the off feature as well. Also, we talk about things like that and explain why one can't touch it ever! But most importantly, it's unplugged!

Mine has a cut off switch in the back as well as a regular power button on the top. The cut off switch is ALWAYS off and I usually don't shred anything until after DD goes to bed. She's too curious.
