Improving Poor Egg Quality

Hello, a friend of mine just got a BFN on her 2nd IVF cycle... She did get pregnant once with IUI which resulted in a miscarriage... So it's possible for her to get pregnant but her RE believes it is due to poor egg quality.

Can you guys please recommend things she should be doing to improve egg quality? Vitamins or anything else? I read an old post about Metformin... Will that help? Is that over the counter or need a script? She's going to the RE tomorrow so I want her to go in with some suggestions. TIAChat Icon

Eta: she said she's been on follitism and menopur before

Re: Improving Poor Egg Quality

after my first failed cycle and they noted poor quality the dr put me on CoQ10enzyme supplements for about 3 months. I had some time in between cycles. It didnt do much for me, and the 2nd cycle I had the same amount of eggs retrieved but none made it to transfer. So dont think it did any good. I think you need to be on it for a long while.

I will add that I have low cholesterol. Back in 09 when I had my son, sometime after we bought life insurance and my cholesterol came back weird. So I had it rerun and my dr was so happy that it was so low. Like LDL HDL all low. Fast forward to after IVF failures and I start seeing a naturopathic dr. get my cholesterol checked and its a 109 total. thats low. She likes to see 120+; Cholesterol is vital in making progesterone, estrogen and testosterone. So for sometime now my body probably wasnt making enough hormones to support good eggs.

and oddly enough my first cycle of IVF, my estrogen Dropped 3 days into stimming and when I did get pregnant, i wasnt making enough progesterone, even being on supplements 2 x a day.

I also tested positive for MTHFR genetic mutation (homozygous which means I have 2 bad copies). its pivotal for turning folic acid into folate and a lot of things on the cellular level. It is a cause of infertility and lots of other diseases in people.

So my long winded advice is to have your friend get her cholesterol checked. B/c even though mine was low, RmA ran a shit ton of tests and on paper I had excellent #'s..in reality not so much and I dont think they ever checked that.

Her RE can do a simple blood test for mTHFR genetic mutation.

My dr recommended DHEA 25 mg three time per day. I'm also taking COQ10. They say it takes three month to see results, so will see what happens.

I take CoQ10, Prenatal, Vitamin D, Pycnogenol, Fish Oil. and Resveratrol. I'm hoping they improve egg quality. I'm also using HGH to improve quality. If she does IVF I suggest HGH. I used it in the past and had success.
