Infant caps for summer babies???

I am due in the first week of June & my MIL asked me if I got enough caps at my shower. Honestly I did not register for any & only one person got me a set with an infant cap. Is this something I need year-round or just for the cooler months?Chat Icon

I have a few - they will give you one in the hospital. But I think what you and I really need are sun hats for baby. Since I don't know what I am having either, I am holding off on that one - although I might just get a white one to start with.

I have a bunch and I do plan on using them, even though it'll be June Chat Icon Heat escapes from the head and babies need to be warm... they're used to it by being inside us.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I found a nice Ecru one with an eyelet pattern that matches both the boy & girl coming home outfits I got, but I thought the knit infant caps were not seasonally correctChat Icon

I will def buy more sun hats once we know the gender as well.

I would get a sun hat more than something knit if you are going to be outside.

Babies can regulate their own temp within a couple weeks of birth or earlier. You don't want to overheat a newborn, that can contribute to SIDS.

I have always dressed DD how I dress myself or cooler, she's like her daddy, she's a hot baby. I had her in May of last year.

Very true! I will use a couple of caps in the hospital but they told us NOT to overheat the baby. They are naturally very warm. So avoid the blankets at night... (not only for SIDS but for overheating them) when you are at home.

Baby caps are more for the baby's security and the extra protection of their soft spot. Remember any sudden air flow to their soft spot startles them that's why the first 2 weeks the baby should have something on it's head at all time,,, the baby was use to being in a very snug warm place for nine months it has to slowly get use to the open space!
