infant gas/constipation
Hi...My DS is almost 15 weeks old...the past few days to a week he has been constipated. Well we weren't sure at first but now we realize that is it. I'm going to call the dr tomorrow morning but was wondering what things any of you have tried to relieve the discomfort. He tries to eat but he gets all fussy...probably because his belly hurts. We are going to try the thermometer w/ the vaseline in his butt...any other methods???

We've used suppositories in the past... work like a charm.

Re: infant gas/constipation
Just got back from the Dr. with my 3 month old and he suggested 1/2 teaspoon of dark caro corn syrup twice a day. I just feel bad about giving corn syrup so I may try the prune juice first.

Ditto! And I actually made a fennel and chamomille tea and always offered it warm, as per my peds recommendation.

Re: infant gas/constipation
DD went through this at 3 weeks. 1/2 oz. of water before EACH feeding worked, but I & the doctor both thought that was too much water, she should have the calories instead.
Then I tried 1 oz. prune juice to 2 oz. of water instead of formula for one feeding a day. Worked for a little while, and then stopped. I then did the glycerin suppository which worked temporarily.
Finally, I switched her to Similac Sensitive and she hasn't had any constipation issues since.
