Insurance not covering Prenatals
Is anyone else's insurance company not covering their prenatals? I went to fill my script last night and they said it will be $70 a month! yeah right! Is there a generic I should take?

Re: Insurance not covering Prenatals
i personally (due to severe stomach issues) take Target brand - they have never bothered me (though a friend tried them and they didn't work for her)!

Re: Insurance not covering Prenatals
Im paying the same thing! I have good coverage but there are 3 payment levels and my prenatals are at the top copay so they arent really covered...I asked if there were generic and nope I asked the doc if there was another kind he said yes but he really wanted me to take prescribed ones with the DHA and not the otc ones...so Im sucking it up any paying for them

Re: Insurance not covering Prenatals
you should call your insurance carrier and ask what prenatals they DO cover. that's hard to imagine that they don't cover any. i had to do that when i was pregnant with DS because the ones my doc prescribed weren't covered. it turned out that they covered like 7 others, so i told my doc and he chose one and wrote the script. it may not be a "name brand" one, but who cares.

Re: Insurance not covering Prenatals
wow..I think I pay like $5 or maybe $25 the most....can't remember..mine are the purple ones, forget the name. $70 is alot but I guess if you have no choice, it is worth it, ya know. Maybe the doctor can give you a bunch of samples every time you go in there?? Mine did in the beginning...also you can call the company of the vitamins and try to get some for free - saying you can't afford it and the insurance doesn't cover it.

Re: Insurance not covering Prenatals
My insurance copay for mine is $68 a month, I refuse to pay that much.
So I talked to the pharmacist and my OB and we decided on Target brand Generic ( which is like $7.99 for 200 pills!!) and The Expecta Brand DHA supplement with it.

Re: Insurance not covering Prenatals
I was paying $50 and I thought that was a lot! then I asked my Dr. for generic because that was getting out of hand and they switched it and all the vitamins were exactly the same.
My insurance covered everything so they are now free!

Re: Insurance not covering Prenatals
Duet makes a generic that they should cover. I don't think any of them cover them so generally they are the price you would pay for a name brand item (I was paying $50 - but the generic is only $10.)

Re: Insurance not covering Prenatals
My insurance covers no pre-natals at all. I have been taking CareOne Prenatals with Folic Acid (from Stop and Shop). My OB said that these are perfectly fine to take.

Re: Insurance not covering Prenatals
id never pay that much...
there are generics that are like $10 but there arent many brands that have a generic option and that doesnt include the dha supplement.
my first two pregnancy attempts i had prescriptions- but my prescription plan changed on this one- and i refuse to pay $50 a month.. I now get Target brand- 200 for $8. then the enfamil Lipil Dha supplement $9 for 30

Re: Insurance not covering Prenatals
I pay a $40 copay a month, which I think is a lot too. I looked into ez-scripts, basically on-line pharmacy and they are charging me $55 for a 3 month supply.

I get the generic of CitraNatal, which is called FolTabs or something like that. I used to pay $5 but then DH and I switched insurance carriers and now I pay $12 but that's still really good. Can your doctor prescribe the generic?

Re: Insurance not covering Prenatals
My doc told me from day 1 to take the OTC prenatals. With the price of the prescription ones even with some insurance coverage it's still cheaper to go with the OTC ones. I just get the store brand, usually the target ones.
