Everything she said in that article makes me so disgusted... And I only got half way through it.... The are so many disturbing points that she brings up that I don't even know where to begin... I hope her children never get their hands on this article

That is just horrible. I couldn't imagine being her child and reading that... it was just so cold. Why would she go on to have a second child if that's how she felt about her son. So sad.

Same here. For someone who was basically saying she wished she'd never had kids, she seems pretty self-righteous about her parenting skills.

The only thing I really feel after reading this is sad. Sad for her children, and sad for the many, many women out there who so desperately WANT to be moms but can't, or struggle for years to. Yet this woman can so easily bring not one, but two children into this word that she admittedly does not want, or have any motherly feelings for. So unfair.

She states at the end of the article that her children are aware of her feelings. Her son asked her how she felt about being a grandmother and she basically told him that she's not interested, but will help out with them and do her "grandmotherly duties" when needed.

The sad irony in all of this, her daughter, who also never wants children, has MS and is bed-ridden living in her parents home... her mother (who remember, never wanted her to begin with) is her sole care-giver.

That has to be by far the strangest thing I have ever read. The whole thing doesn't even make sense. I think she wrote this for shock value. She seems to almost contradict herself.

This woman sounds like she IS suffering from a mental illness...I honestly can't believe that a sane person could be that cold and indifferent toward her children...

Interesting (and controversial) article... worth the read....

That whole article made me so sad.. Those poor kids!

I love how she judges working moms and claims they do their jobs half halfheartedly?? I love my DS with every fiber of my being and I have never wanted anything more in this world than I wanted him... How could SHE be a mom to the best of her ability if she didn't feel the same? That seems way worse than me working!

I don't understand or feel the way she does, but I think she is trying to say that while she isn't IN love with her children she does love them. The part where she says if she could take her daughter's MS away speaks volumes to me. I have a step-parent that while my sister was dying said she was glad it was her daughter and not her. I asked if she could take it from her would she and she laughed in my face! She said No way, I have to much to live for.Chat Icon How is that a loving parent? At least this woman is honest about the fact that she feels this way, and yet recognized she had a role and commitment to up hold. I'm not saying it's right, but it doesn't sound like she just let them fend for herself.

Sometimes the thought "what the heck did I do?!" crosses my mind. But I love my daughter, wanted my daughter and will always love her. I read the article so that maybe I could defend the author even a little bit but I can't. I think she is simply put... a bad person.

You know, it's one thing to have these feelings, it's another thing to publish them (and I'm sure there are some people who can relate--so for that reason it's useful), but it's an entirely other, disgusting thing to publish it using your real name and the names of your family members AND include photos! That one of her and the kids and the little boy's wearing a mustache...just Chat Icon

Re: Interesting (and controversial) article... worth the read....

Sad but why did anyone give her a forum to voice her life. I am sure there are women who have had children for their partner's sake and never really wanted to. And maybe they aren't the loving parent or maybe it changed them and kids were just not what they thought. This woman willing or not has the burden of taking care of her daughter for the remainder of her days. I just hope she doesn't find herself being the one who needs the caring for and her son turns her out. Karma. She's a bit...

Edited cause my phone makes up words

I think she sounds like a total cuntt. How can she be so frank? I'd be devastated if I found out my mother didn't want me and forced herself to love me.

Interesting (and controversial) article... worth the read....

While i dont understand her feelings at all, I adore my daughter and im one of those doting moms. I admire the strength it takes to voice a feeling or opinion that you know is controversial and most people wont share... or are too afraid to admit they share...

So its ok to feel these things but its not ok to speak about them? Kind of how it was for gay men for a long time. We live in a world of free speech doesnt mean your always gonna like what you hear...

Her baby was born blue and his cord wrapped around her neck and she didnt care. This woman needs a therapist she sounds like a sociopath to me. How sad for her children. As a working mother if she thinks she is a better mother than me she has a completely altered sense of reality

Meh. It's bs to me. Doesn't make sense. She didn't want them but to this day cares for her bedridden daughter. Maybe she's trying to make some kind of point about caring for children? Like about carrying out your responsibility? Obviously very misguided if that's it.

Well, to me it sounded like she was pretty clear about not loving her children. She would probably take away her daughter's MS just so she wouldn't feel obligated to care for her any longer. I'd be very curious to see what a psychiatrist would have to say about her. Like a PP said, I was thinking sociopath when I read this too.

Look, I can see and ALMOST agree with her on how it's hard losing your spontaneity and how you can sometimes have the desire for peace and quiet and even with how the work never ends. I can totally understand those points. BUT, its the way she views those things, like those negatives trump the love and that IS all there is, how she says she loves her son but still wishes she didn't have him. How she just "tolerated" her children. Don't even get me started on the FTWM stuff. Honestly, she just sounds like a miserable person, I feel like she probably approaches a lot of things in life with her miserable attitude.

It is one thing to regret it, maybe she doesn't have the "mom gene" and she did say she never wanted kids, and I can understand that, lots of people feel that way. And lets say, OK fine, she went along with it to make her DH happy, fine. But good lord woman, keep that shit to yourself! I don't care how old your kids are, who says "i still wish i never had you" what kind of person says that???? so that they know? If you want to get it off your chest, say it to your girlfriend over lunch!

See to me a sociopath would have killed her kids, but she didn't. She raised them and provided for them. SO she's not mother of the year and I bet 95% of Mom's don't agree or understand her, but I also bet there are some Mom's reading it thinking thank goodness i'm not alone. Maybe reading something like this WOULD stop a sociopath from harming her children. Feeling isolated because you aren't following the norm can drive you to do terrible things. Everything, it seems, is up for discussion these days why not this? Like a pp said there was a time not long ago that a persons sexuality or partner were never discussed and now look at it.

Re: Interesting (and controversial) article... worth the read....

I started to skim the article... but I'm not going to keep reading it..

Honestly, I had a mother who was stay at home. When we were adults she many times over said how she shouldn't have gotten married, shouldn't have had kids.. Thats not an interpretation - those actual words. When she was in the ICU she claimed her family was gone and wanted a DNR because her brother and parents were dead(while her husband and 2 kids were bedside to her)......

From what I get out of it, is there is a good chance my mother is an untreated depressed person(but she doesn't believe in taking prescription meds). The initial sadness by not having a parent starts to go away. Life becomes filled by the love of God, of spouse you choose who shows you love, and the children you then procreate from that love, and the friends you choose to keep in your life.
