Re: Intermittent fasting
I did it where I’d eat only during an 8-hour period every day and then fast for 16. Usually I’d eat 11am to 7pm. I liked it a lot and definitely lost weight, I think about 5 pounds in about a month.. I didn’t stick with it for long & I wasn’t super strict, occasionally I’d eat something outside of my time frame. Probably if I’d stuck with it longer I could have lost some more but I got lazy with paying attention to the clock. It was worth it anyway though bc it helped kick start healthier eating habits for me for sure.

Intermittent fasting
My husband only eats between 12-7 (still has coffee in the AM with just milk) in the last month....lost 20lbs... (he only had about 30-35 to loose.. nothing major) I look at food and gain 5... SMH it’s not even like he ate an egg sandwich every day for breakfast he would maybe have a piece of fruit and a slice of toast if that....he only does this Monday to Friday... I can’t even make it to 7am without eating I’m always hungry

Intermittent fasting
I've been doing it. I pretty much eat from 11-7 but I drink my coffee with milk and sugar in the morning. I'm not super strict, especially during the summer. I'm down about 8 pounds which is pretty much all I was hoping for. I just wanted to lose the baby weight that's been hanging around for a few years and after being stuck for so long I can't believe how easily it finally was.

Intermittent fasting
I have tried it with little results. There is a facebook group for it. I thought I was following pretty strictly too, but I think it just doesn't work for me.

Same but tbh I kind of eat like this naturally so my body is probably just used to it.

Re: Intermittent fasting
I have a friend who did this. She lost about 40 pounds in the first 6-8 months and has now kept it off for a year +. She was SUPER strict about it, never cheating and eating very small meals, too. She also worked out a few times a week. Now she eats outside of her 8 hours, but she still eats smaller, healthy meals to maintain.
Someone in my office did it, too, and lost 25+ pounds in a few months. He lost is more quickly (but men tend to lose easier/faster). He also was pretty strict, but not as much as she was.

You still have to cut calories, etc. Its really to be used in conjunction with a diet/exercise plan. Intermittent fasting in itself really won't help you drop any weight. I naturally intermittent fast, because I am never hungry before 11 am or after 8 pm. But I eat like shit when I do eat so ....

It ultimately has to do with your calories. Doesn't matter when you eat them. This helps people reduce their calories, that's all.

Yes exactly, some people eat all day around the clock, late at night, big breakfasts, etc., so limiting your time period forces that kind of snacker to eat fewer calories.
I never eat breakfast and eat and early dinner so I guess I have been intermittent fasting for years! But I'm still fat because of the type of food I am eating between 12 and 7!

Re: Intermittent fasting
Thanks everyone! I started yesterday. I'll give it a try and see how it goes. I am craving my light and semi sweet coffee lol but really trying to kick that habit. Or at least reduce it because honestly it's one of my life's little pleasures .

You can have it, but within your eating hours. True intermittent fasting means no calories during the time you are fasting. So you can have black coffee (with some stevia) or black tea. Technically no milk at all.

Yes, I tried the black but just can't do it. I will have my coffee at 12 but want to only do it a few days a week as opposed to daily. The way I like it, it's like a treat!

Re: Intermittent fasting
I've been doing it...combined with a 1200 calorie diet. I've lost 25 lbs. I started in April and lost all 25lbs within 3 months. I don't eat anything (other than having coffee with milk) prior to noon. No food after 7pm.
My husband's friend has also been doing it. He doesn't follow any calorie restrictions like I do though. And he's lost 15 lbs. in the last 3 months.

Re: Intermittent fasting
You know what's so funny about this? It goes against everything we have ever been taught about how you NEED to eat breakfast if you want to lose weight, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, don't skip breakfast, yada yada yada. Yet people lose weight doing this and not eating anything before noon.
It's just funny how things change when it comes to diet and nutrition advice over the years.

Awesome! I'm eating regularly and trying to keep low carb, high protein, veggies. Time will tell for me!

Re: Intermittent fasting
I guess I kind of do this. I also have stress and anxiety to add to this diet. I’ve lost 30 lbs.
I will wake up and have one or two bites of leftovers for breakfast. Yes, dinner for breakfast.
In the afternoon, I might cook an egg and put it on toast. Then I will make a nice dinner containing a meat and veg.
I save my carbs for wine, lol.
I don’t like sweets anymore, so that’s not a problem for me.
Meat and veg is where it’s at.
When I want something like a burger, then I eat it.
I’m also trying to put on about 5 lbs. I try not to get obsessed about it, and I just enjoy myself.
The 5:2 diet is supposed to be good.

It's not really a diet. It's just better for your metabolism, and during the fasting periods your body can naturally get into ketosis and start burning fat. So I think the people who lose a ton of weight probably had a ton to lose in the first place. But you still need to be aware of what you eat during the day. It's recommended that you do it in conjunction with a diet (it's very popular with keto)

Yes, my husband does this to compliment his keto diet but he was losing a shit ton of weight on the keto diet BEFORE he started intermittent fasting. And getting into ketosis means keeping your carbs to levels so low that most people find it very difficult maintain. His only true sources of carbs are veggies. That's it. The fasting just helps you avoid spiking insulin. As does not eating any carbs or sugar. It's all about not spiking insulin. That is what helps you lose weight. If you do this and then eat pasta and bread and sugar all day during your eating hours, it won't do anything for you.

I am far from low carb and am not overweight by any means but I still managed to lose 8 pounds with intermittent fasting. I try to limit meat and dairy so I eat lots of carbs, beans, fruits, veggies, and then some meat and dairy. I just ate a crap load of pop tarts and s'mores while camping for 4 days and gained less than half a pound back. I eat what I think is healthy but also what I like. Limiting the time I eat naturally limits my calories more than when I was eating whenever I wanted or whenever thought I should.

I did the intermittent fasting to try and naturally curb my unhealthy eating habits that caused me to gain 7 lbs over the winter. I changed nothing about how I ate except I stopped eating at 7pm and I was able to lose those 7 lbs relatively quickly.
