Re: Is $50 an ok Daycare Xmas gift for teachers?

Posted by Melissa77 I think they will appreciate whatever you give but my attitude were these people watch my children all day and I know they are not paid great so I like to show my appreciation.
ITA with the above sentiment.
Teachers at our center are pretty steady, not much turnover. We were planning on tipping the two teachers in the room. I guess our plan is on the generous side as well. They work very hard, are entrusted with the daily care of our children and make nearly minimum wage. I would give what you feel comfortable with and what you can afford.
For the rest of the staff, about 12, we are sending in a platter of assorted meats, cheeses, breads for lunch.
ITA with this as well! i think you can never be too generous with the people who take care of your children. especially if they do it well. i think it is important that you let them know they are appreciated. i say this only if you can truly afford it however. i plan on decently tipping my daycare teachers as well. there are only 3 of them however with little or no turnover. Theresa-i love the idea of sending in food too! very nice!

I agree, I think I am going to stick with the original $50, they are so good to DS and I LOVE them and there is no turnover since it is a private in-home daycare.

Re: Is $50 an ok Daycare Xmas gift for teachers?
My son has 2 teachers in his DC center and I make a basket of eadable goodies (gourmet chocolates, jams, toasted nuts etc, all store bought) in the total amount of $25 for each of them. I also include a card with my words of appreciation.
This year my daughter has a nanny, 5 days a week. I need to give her something, but not sure what... Any ideas?

I think that is very generous. I would do a breakfast or luncheon for everyone and then give the head teachers a little something extra.

I feel the same way. Last year I gave the main teacher $100. (for twins) and $60 for the assistant. I plan on doing similar this year. They are both go bove and beyond for my DC.

Re: Is $50 an ok Daycare Xmas gift for teachers?
Wow, I think $50 would be the norm - I'm shocked (though happy ) to hear that it's overly generous.
In other threads, people have posted that they give their babysitter / nanny the equivalent of a week's pay as a tip. I was basically using that (splitting it) as my guide to how much to give to DS's teachers There are four main teachers and then 1-2 assistants; we were thinking a $50 Visa card per teacher and a $10 Dunkin Donuts card (there's one right downstairs) for the assistants and I felt a little cheap since that's still $85 less than I pay a week.

Re: Is $50 an ok Daycare Xmas gift for teachers?
$50 is very generous. For a Holiday gift I would buy something, like a small holiday gift basket for $20.00. My sister has 14 teachers and she always buys small gift baskets or a box of chocolate. They're a hit every year! A good place for this is Emiles Candies in Oceanside.

I don't think gifts are necessary for the director and her two assistants. You could give the Director a box of chocolate or something like that. I usually get stuff like that or Bath and Body stuff. Most just write me a note saying nice things about the center. I have never had a parent give my assistants gifts.
Now I hope this helped
Thank you for postin this B/C I was about to go get a G/C for them. She really seems to know the children so well but I think I am going to get each a bottle of wine.
To the OP, you could do an edible arrangement and then smaller giftcards.

Re: Is $50 an ok Daycare Xmas gift for teachers?
I think $50 is an amazingly generous gift, I am only going to spend about $20 for his main caregiver and $10 for the other girls in his room.

Re: Is $50 an ok Daycare Xmas gift for teachers?
Lucas started at his new center in August...switched over to the other side of the room in November...he's in early and out late so we have 6 teachers we want to give gifts to this year:
Head Teachers (2) each get a $25 Amex card and a coach gift
Head Teachers from the other side that he started with and are still involved with him (2) each get a $25 Amex card
Evening Assistants (2) each get a $25 Amex card
I am going to grab a box of Godiva from our Cafe shop in Union Square next week for the Director and then I'm done.

$50 is overly generous.
I know it's hard to put a price on a gift for someone who cares for your child every day.
eta. I think what goes a longer way (and if you want to stick with your original plan, it's more of a above & beyond)..a note about how much you appreciate the care they put into your child. I know when my son was having a hard time, the letter I wrote to the teacher seemed to have the most impact.
Also showing generousity (whether it's a note or a cookie platter) outside of the holidays has an impact as well.

Re: Is $50 an ok Daycare Xmas gift for teachers?
$50 is very generous. We gave alot the first holiday too when my DS was in one room, but now I feel bad as I can't still do that.
My DS has been in three rooms this year, each with a teacher and assistant, and a number of floaters/closers that all deal with him each day. Seriously like 15 people alltogether. I hope it doesn't sound cheap, but I talked to other parents at the center, and they do $5/month max, so that is what I will do for all teachers and assistants, plus a personal card with our thanks and an ornment. The floaters/closers will get either $5 DD cards or ornments. We will give each of the 3 rooms a tin of candy/choc, and we also give that to the main office for all the Directors and assistants. I wish I could give more...
I've been saving a bit here and there b/c there's no way I can tell DH that I am getting/giving all that!
