Is anyone else having anxiety regarding sleep/crib/bassinet safety issues?

I want my child to be safe and I am such a worrier to begin with. I am going crazy with all the warnings/safety issues.

After doing my research, I have learned that crib bumpers are not particularly safe (breathable ones should be used instead.) I do get this concept. But I am also learning that sleep sacks should be used in lieu of blankets? Thats fine with me but I wish I did have more. Also, we were planning on keeping the baby in the bassinet and many websites are urging crib use from day one (another safety issue). I am beginning to feel like there would be an issue putting my daughter to sleep ANYWHERE!!!!!

Uggggh!!!!Chat Icon All of this is causing me major stress I keep on driving DH crazy!!

What does everyone plan to do? Is anybody else concerned? Any BTDT moms want to contribute what worked for them in terms of safety and the babies comfort?

yes, breathable bumpers are safer. i would get those.

secondly, in the beginning you may want to swaddle, so you can use blankets or the swaddle me.

the bassinet is totally safe. if the baby rolls around a lot as she gets older, that's when it could become a hazard b/c she can press her face against the sides.

i plan on having thie DC in the bassinet of our PNP for the first few weeks - that's what i did with DS and he was fine.

We didn't use any bumpers at all until they were around 6 months and moving around, then we put in the breathable ones.
In the beginning, we swaddled with the swaddle me and miracle blanket, and then switched to sleep sacks.
They slept in the bassinet for the first week or two, and then in the bouncy seats, and then in the crib. Well, DS slept in the swing for a very long time, and then the crib.
I've never heard of safety issues with the bassinet. I took them out of it because they were sleeping in it together, and they would turn to the side and their faces would be all smushed up against the side, and I worried about that - is that what you are referring to? You can use the PNP bassinet, it has mesh sides.

We always had bumpers, but ours are very thin (to the point that when ds stands on them they actually fold in half)... i am a big fan of sleep sacks and plan on using them instead of swaddling.... i have every intention of using the bassinet in the very beginning since dh works nights and i dont want to wake ds up everytime i go to get the baby

I agree with LB - first off - Breathe Chat Icon

We are doing the same thing we did with Jack. The baby will go in a bassinet right next to my bed for the first 2-3 months.

We will use the Angelcare monitor until he starts being too mobile and moving off of the pad. This was a true lifesaver in the beginning IMO.

We also swaddled in the beginning. Once he broke out of the swaddle he moved into a sleepsack. Jack still sleeps in a sleepsack at 2 years old.

I took out the bumpers in Jack's crib when he would start smushing his face against them. I could see this in the video monitor (the second lifesaver IMO - still use it to this day)

I never ever put blankets in his crib - still don't. At about 18 months he started to sleep with two stuffed animals - that number has now gone up to about 20. He took one of his pajama shirts into the crib with him tonight to dress his puppy - I will not take my eye off the monitor until he is asleep and we can go in there and take the shirt out.

As you unfortunately know, there is nothing scarier then the things that are out of my control. I can only imagine the sleepless nights we will be getting in the near future. Just know that we do our best and hopefully it all works out! Chat Icon

My DS slept in the PNP until he was 3 wks old then I moved him to his crib. I swaddle him using the SwaddleMe blanket and I just ordered the breathable bumpers to put on.as of right now I am still using the wedge sleep positioner as well. There is so much info out there these days it makes our brains go into overdrive!

PS I also have a video monitor so I can peek at him during the night, that helps me
