Re: Is anyone planning on NOT breastfeeding?

i am willing to try... but i know lots of people who don't, it's a totally personal preference. i know that if it doesn't work for me, i have no problem using formula.

Re: Is anyone planning on NOT breastfeeding?

I am totally on the fence. I will make the decision when I need to I suppose. I have considered only pumping for the same benefits. Only time will tell.

Re: Is anyone planning on NOT breastfeeding?

I am nervous too. I am going to go back to work at 6 months so while it is cheaper, I am a teacher and don't know where I will be able to pump!

Re: Is anyone planning on NOT breastfeeding?

Before I was PG, I was not going to. Now I am on the fence and plan on taking a class to help me decide.

To be honest, this topic has the exact same potential for conflict as the one about vaginal birth versus c-section. It gets revisted over and over again. Frankly, no amount of posts/threads or opinions could sway me either way on either topic.

Re: Is anyone planning on NOT breastfeeding?

I've never had that "motherly urge" to do so, and my nipples have always been really sensitive so I'm not exactly sure if its something I will enjoy. I am willing to give it a go in the hospital, but If I'm still uncomfortable with it or its painful, I won't do it.

Re: Is anyone planning on NOT breastfeeding?

Prior to my pregnancy, I never thought I would. However, I am now considering all options. I am still more leaning towards not breastfeeding, however. I am going to see how I feel as this pregnancy progresses and after I give birth.

Re: Is anyone planning on NOT breastfeeding?

I feel there is no harm in trying if you are on the fence. I was definitely on the fence, gave it a go but it was very painful for me. I am way too sensitive there and yes, I do know that with more time I prob would have eventually gotten through the pain but to me at that moment, I couldn't bear it.

Next time around maybe I'll try again. Or i'll try and pump. OR just go straight to formula and say to heck with it all, lol. The thought of losing weight faster is appealing to me...I am still hanging on to weight from having my son 17 months ago!!! Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone planning on NOT breastfeeding?

I didn't even try with DD. Besides being put on medication immediately after birth, I just didn't have the desire to. It just didn't feel comfortable or natural for me.

Part of me wishes I wanted to for the experience and because it has it's benefits, but I didn't. I won't with #2 either.

I am going to try. Recently, I know a few people that haven't been able to do it. We'll see what happens.

I'm not. I am on medication so I couldn't even if I wanted to, but I'm fine with it, I really never had the desire to do it.

I'm not going to. Just a personal choice. I do not feel very comfortable with it.

Re: Is anyone planning on NOT breastfeeding?

I'm going to try. this is #1 for us, and I have to return to work within 2-3 weeks, so I don't know how long I'll be able to go on.

I very likely will pump instead of breast feed directly, becuase the baby will be hittin the bottle anyway about 3 weeks after birth Chat Icon

if it's too painful, I'll quit. there are definitely health benefits to BF'ing, but I want to balance it with my sanity and pain threshold Chat Icon

Why so soon?

And in NYS you are legally disabled for 6-8 (depending on the birth) and you are not supposed to work until that time is over.

I would love too. But I am on meds for my liver and don't want to take a chance.

Re: Is anyone planning on NOT breastfeeding?

I'm unfortunately my own boss and cannot shut-down my work too long. I'm also the breadwinner, so I have to go back when the sick time runs out Chat Icon

it's fine. mom will be taking care of crumb sometimes , and for the balance, both of our jobs are very flexible time-wise..... and we can stagger our hours to cover home....

I would love to and I was set to do it with my dd, but my milk never came in, so I am not planning on breast feeding this one as I am assuming that the same thing will happen. Chat Icon

I figure I will at least "try" it and if I feel uncomfortable, or it's not working, I will have no problem what so ever going straight to formula.
