Is it rude to ask a neighbor not to let their dog on my lawn

Maybe it's the NYer in me???

But I think it's plain rude to allow your dog to use my lawn for it's bathroom. I live in a development where we all have about 1/2 acre....so why do you have to walk your dog and let them go on my lawn? I have issues with a few of the neighbors because I walk with my DD & see poop OFTEN not picked up.

Well, today my DH & I watched a neighbor just stop & stand infront of our yard and let her dog walk (leashed) on my lawn and driveway, sniffing around, and I think peed....finally I went out and asked, "I have a little girl who plays out there, do you mind please not letting your dog do it's business on my lawn?"

Was that rude of me??!!!

don't even ask - just announce it.

it's your right.

and op you are not wrong. I hate when people don't curb their dogs. put a small sign by the curb that says please curb your dog.

at 14 weeks pregnant I think it was my hormones. When I unlocked the door all I heard from the living room was my DH; "oh no here we go...."

I said it in a nice tone, but I hate that I had to go out there. All night I've been thinking about what they must think.

Mind you, a few weeks prior the same dog (shitzu) was on their lawn and ran at me and jumped on my DD, while she spoke with her home builder in the yard. Luckily my other neightbor stopped and helped me grab the dog so I could calm my daughter who was crying and scared. Finally after at least a minute she came over appologizing. They live literally diagonal from meChat Icon

in my neighborhood, we dont have any sidewalks... so there is no "public" grass area for my dog to pee/poop when i take him for a walk & he wont go to the bathroom in the street

i have no choice but to have him pee/poop on people's lawns -- i ALWAYS clean up after him & i make sure he does it on the edge of the lawn

i have had one person tell me to not let my dog pee on their lawn and i say, im sorry, but my dog wont pee in the street and i make sure he does it on the very edge of the lawn

this reminds me of Jerry Sienfelds stand up about if aliens looked down and saw that these creatures pooped and another creature picked it up, who was the higher level?

I ABSOLUTELY 100% agree with you. if your dog craps on someones lawn at least pick it up. you can't help that an animal has to go...

I'm sorry but I would be ****** if someone let their dog go on my lawn. Sorry that he doesn't like going in the street, but let him use your own yard then. My yard is MINE...its not public property.

The people we bought our house from had 2 dogs and I'm hoping that I can actually grow grass again where they let their dogs go all the time. Its gross, and if I had a DC I'd be even crazier about it!

If he doesn't stop, throw your DCs diapers on their lawn and see how they like it!Chat Icon

Not rude at all...

I have issues with my neighbors using my yard as a go between their house and the house next door.

They do this even if we are sitting in the backyard eating dinner or just hanging out!

When I asked them not to, I was told that I have turned the neighborhood into an unfriendly one...Chat Icon

Re: Is it rude to ask a neighbor not to let their dog on my lawn

I'm a dog owner and it drives me nuts when I see people do that. It's my effing lawn that I pay landscapers for to have it look nice! I do know people that live in areas that don't have sidewalks and they walk their dog on their own property to go to the bathroom.

We have the same problem. I ask them why don't you walk your dog by your house? I don't want yellow grass and **** on my lawn. I watch the ones that don't pick up after there dog and see were they live or car they drive, and the next time I see there dog doing there busy and it is not picked up I am going to put it on there door step, or on the handle of there
car. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I also was thinking of calling 311 and take pics. There is a $250.00 fine for that.

Re: Is it rude to ask a neighbor not to let their dog on my lawn

i totally hear what everyone is saying... but the purpose of walking my dog in the morning, is so he can poop/pee and get some energy out before he is home all day... esp in the winter when he would be confined to indoors, i HAD to make SURE he pooped and peed before we left -- hence a walk

and when i walk him on the weekends, i cant help it if he pees... we take long walks & he could be outside for 2 hours in our yard before we go and still pee on our walk

I don't think it is rude at all.
It doesn't matter that it is the edge or not. Your property not theirs. If the same person and/or dog was doing that at my house, I would be annoyed too.

I should also mention I have a dog. I would not let it do that to someones yard daily, it is rude. If they are walking the dog to get out energy that is fine, walk it around their own yard and have it go to the bathroom there, before continuing on the walk. I do that with my dog.

you could at least have the balls to quote me if you are going to respond in reference to my post

and like i said, no matter how long i let my dog out in MY yard, he may pee on a walk... i cant predict that, nor can i help it... i take him for long walks on the weekend

Re: Is it rude to ask a neighbor not to let their dog on my lawn

I totally understand that it is hard to stop a dog from peeing, but my feelings are, when I see people just letting the dog walk on the lawn knowing that the dog may pee, why not just walk the dog in the street? That would make me happy.
