Re: Is it rude to ask a neighbor not to let their dog on my lawn

I don't think it is rude at all. It doesn't matter that it is the edge or not. Your property not theirs. If the same person and/or dog was doing that at my house, I would be annoyed too.
I should also mention I have a dog. I would not let it do that to someones yard daily, it is rude. If they are walking the dog to get out energy that is fine, walk it around their own yard and have it go to the bathroom there, before continuing on the walk. I do that with my dog.
you could at least have the balls to quote me if you are going to respond in reference to my post
and like i said, no matter how long i let my dog out in MY yard, he may pee on a walk... i cant predict that, nor can i help it... i take him for long walks on the weekend
i understand you can't control your dog's bladder i think if it were one time it wouldn't be a huge deal - but - some dogs like the same spot and keep gravitating towards it, and constant urine on grass makes it die and it turns that ugly yellow color. it's hard to fix, and some people spend a fortune on landscaping, KWIM? but i know, and im sure others know, you don't intentionally steer him to yards.

no i know i totally understand... but i just wanted to make it clear that i walk my dog everyday and on the weekends... if you have a dog, you should be walking them, not just letting them in the backyard... a dog NEEDS to be walked... so yes my dog will pee on our walks sometimes and i cant help that -- no matter how long i try to get him to pee/poop in my yard

def complain... I have a dog and only walk her in the street. Our town writes about it in the monthly paper so maybe you could send a letter in to your development. Maggie poops in the street if she needs to go and I always make sure she pees before on my prop before we start walking

in my neighborhood, we dont have any sidewalks... so there is no "public" grass area for my dog to pee/poop when i take him for a walk & he wont go to the bathroom in the street
i have no choice but to have him pee/poop on people's lawns -- i ALWAYS clean up after him & i make sure he does it on the edge of the lawn
i have had one person tell me to not let my dog pee on their lawn and i say, im sorry, but my dog wont pee in the street and i make sure he does it on the very edge of the lawn
It's kind of your responsibilty to train your dog NOT to do those things... if you don't let him release on the lawn, he'll have no choice but to do it in the street. It's not your property and it ruins people's lawns....

But if someone asked you NOT to let your dog pee or poop on their lawn, would you say too bad? I don't think you are doing the same thing that the OP neighbor is talking about. And you can't get bent out of shape (not saying that you are getting bent out of shape) if a neighbor asks you not to let your dog do it's business on their lawn... where your dog will or will not pee isn't their problem.

ive tried to get him to pee in the street and he wont... the only time he will pee in the street is when there is a lot of snow on the ground
i agree thats its not my property and while it may ruin people's lawns... am i not suppossed to take my dog for a walk? my dog is very wierd with certain things that i cant "train" him to do otherwise... like when we play catch, he will NEVER run after the ball after it hits something and comes flying back at him.. am i suppossed to "train" him to not be scared of the ball? no thats just the way he is... and after he has just had a swim, he wont walk into an area that is mostly dirt... am i suppossed to "train" him to walk through the dirt even if hes wet? not really
i dont know what the answer is but i just wanted to give another side of the story... while i understand people get mad & i think that if i was letting my dog walk in the middle of someones yard, that would be wrong, but i pull him to the very edge b/c he just wont pee in the street

i only had one expereince with someone saying something to me... the guy's son (he was about 15) that lives on the corner of our block was standing at his bus stop and asked me to clean up my dogs pee... i was like really how do you clean up pee? lol in anycase, no i dont let my dog pee on their lawn anymore... and he wasnt even peeing on their front lawn... it was the side lawn that was furthest from their house blocked off by bushes
maybe its just different in my neighborhood... there are a TON of dogs on my block and we are all very dog friendly -- except for that 15 year old kid lol everyone has their dogs poop/pee on the edge of peoples lawns and everyone is good about cleaning up after their dog

Re: Is it rude to ask a neighbor not to let their dog on my lawn
honestly I could care less if a dog pees on my lawn- I am not eating there so it doesnt bother me
but if it bothered a neighbor, I wouldnt walk my dog near their yard- I hate any kind of anomousity and I would definitely not want that with someone who lived so close to me- so I wouldnt have been at all offended if you said that to me.

Re: Is it rude to ask a neighbor not to let their dog on my lawn
Dog owner here and regardless of whether my dog has already gone potty or needs to, she is leashed and she isn't walking on other people's lawns. She does her business in our yard.
We have at least two neighbors who let their dogs "roam" and one dog's favorite place to poop is in the middle of our front yard and he pees in my front garden right hear my porch stairs!!
ETA: We have no sidewalks in my area.

Yeah well I lived in a dog friendly neighborhood and lemme tell you, I got pretty sick of stepping in sh!t. So not everyone cleans it up.
And if your dog won't go in the street, walk him in a field or a dog run. But not on my lawn. If I wanted pee or poo on my lawn, I'd have my own dog.
And I don't get what the difference is between walking a dog and letting him run around in your yard, its all exercise, no?

i have never stepped in poop in my neighborhood... i must say we are all pretty good with that
just letting your dog in the backyard still gives the dog the feelings of "four walls" while it is still exercise, its not enough for a dog (at least a big dog anyways) i see a HUGE difference in my dog's behavior if i dont walk him for one day... it really makes a big difference
ETA: and i do take him to dog parks and runs, but our daily walks are in the neighborhood before work

you obviously dont have a dog.....bc while it is all exercise, to a dog there is nothing better than getting a nice long walk, or going to a dog park/run.....they love to get out their own yard and explore the world, no one likes to be stuck at home all the time

I still dont get it, youre the owner, the dog is on a leash, so you should in theory have control of whether or not a dog is on someones lawn or not.
Ive had dogs before and they NEVER peed on anyone elses lawn....I never let them.....EVER. Its just rude and disrespectful of your neighbors property. Your dog, keep he urine and feces on your lawn.
ETA: we did not have sidewalks either.

There is a big difference actually. They do need the walks. I'm not sure if you've ever watched Cesar Milan or any of the other dog shows, but it's something that they keep reiterating as a necessity. No matter what size your dog, you need to exhaust it to keep aggression at bay.

while that is true, as much as i pull my dog OFF of a lawn, he will look up at me and be like, "really b*tch, im NOT peeing in the street" and he wont pee

My dog thinks the yard is his toilet I know he was thinking "It's about friggin time" when DH and I picked up the winter's worth of poop from the yard this weekend because it was finally snow free

it just doesnt happen that way with my dog... if we are on a 2 hour walk, im not going to NOT let him pee... sorry i just wouldnt do that
i think this is a moot point b/c as i already stated, my neighborhood is very dog friendly and doesnt care about whos dog is peeing or pooping as long as we clean up after our dog

Re: Is it rude to ask a neighbor not to let their dog on my lawn
walking a dog is one thing, walking a dog to allow it to go to the bathroom on someone's lawn is another. I think the OP was about one person using the OP yard as a toilet.
I personally find it rude and disgusting. And i really don't get it to be honest because when i walked my dog she had to go she went in the street and I cleaned up the poo and if it was pee at least it was in the street and not damaging someone's yard.

How does it "not happen" with your dog? If you pull him off the yards of your neighbors, how is there any other choice for him but to either hold it or go in the street.
I agree with the OP, I thinks it's rude in general. I you have an agreement with your neighbors, then so be it, but in general it's not acceptable and I would be annoyed.

Re: Is it rude to ask a neighbor not to let their dog on my lawn
I think its rude if it is intentional. I know a dog will go when it has to go, but if the owner puts in an effort at least to try to stop them from going in someones yard, Im sure other people will notice that and appreciate it. But if the neighbor is repeatedly having them go on your yard, then i dont think it was rude of you to ask them to stop.
