Re: Is maternity leave usually paid?

Because I am an executive of my company, mine is paid- and I actually get my full salary for the time I am off.

I just checked into mine—we get 8 weeks after the baby is born at full pay. And you are allowed to take up to a year off with a guarantee of returning to your position and salary at the end of a year's time. But only the first 8 weeks are paid.

I get six Weeks disability that will pay me 60% of my check. After that FMLA kicks in I can take up to 12 Weeks FMLA. I am going to take 6 Weeks FMLA and save the other 6 Weeks in case I need it. You only get 12 Weeks every 12 months. God for bid something bad should happen. My husband works for construction and I am always worried about him getting hurt @ work. I would like to have those other 6 Weeks to be on the safe side.

This is absolutely shameful! I am always appalled to hear how bad the maternity policy is in the states!!! In the UK we get quite a good deal...(depending on the company) I got 6 weeks at 90% of my full pay, then another 20 weeks at a statuatory pay (which is about $200 is a week) and after six month there is no pay, but your company has to hold your job or a similar job at the same pay rate! Also, the government gives us money when we have our baby, something like $400 to put into a trust fund and then we get £17.50 a week from the government until the kids are 18...so thats like $30. I have been off of work now since the 9th of December and I am going back in January..I saved up some of my holiday time! But I think that the US is terrible with this maternity leave! And they want the population to grow! Shocking!
