Is she ready to drop her nap (opinions welcome)
So miki has been a nightmare with sleeping for at least 6 months (coincidental to KJ's birth? probably not)
On the weekends, she does not nap - BUT if she is in the car in the afternoon, she will always fall asleep. also, at aroung 6pm, she is a nightmare but then she falls right to sleep at 8ish (which is what she always used to do)
During the week, the sitter still lets her nap and she usually will sleep 1-1.5 hours. On those days, she stays up until at LEAST 10pm...she will talk to me through the walls, call for me to do x,y and z....ask me to read her book after book after book and will flip out when I remind her that we read 2 books at bedtime
what do you think?
thanks

This sounds like Ryan when he was giving up the nap. If he did nap, he wouldn't go to bed at a reasonable hour, but if he didn't nap, he was so cranky come late afternoon. Then he would collapse at 6:00 or 7:00 pm.
We decided to drop the nap and deal with it so that he would go to sleep earlier. He still gets cranky in the evenings, but we deal. And he is definitely better than he was when he first stopped napping.

Eddie is in that in between stage right now. With him, its not so much not needing to nap, but being old enough to know that he doesnt want too. At this age....you cant really force them to nap....KWIM? But like you, bc hes not completely ready....he will pass out in the car if hes asleep and if Im lucky, I can transfer him.
Hes in daycare 2Xs per week and he naps there, but I think its bc its so structured. The other days my mom watches him and its hit or miss. She lets him nap on the couch...she puts on quiet TV like Thomas, or he LOVES watching Steam Engines on Youtube, so shell sit with him on her lap and watch steam engines and play with his hair and he will doze off.
As for nighttime...I dont think its necessarily that shes not tired....if shes like Eddie. Just that she is feeling her oats and knows now, that she can stay awake if she wants too.
I dont think its yet one or the other....I think its an in between stage. At this point, Im taking it day by day. Sometimes on the weekends, Ill plan errands for right before I know hell be tired, so he falls asleep in the car.

Yes. Lance was doing the same thing. cutting the nap was hard at first. 5pm he would be cranky and tired, sometimes falling asleep during dinner. He got over it though, and now he's back to bed at 8 like normal. I could not take him awake until 11pm.

Welcome to my world. Is Miki still up? Gilly is. WIDE AWAKE in fact. If she doesnt nap mid day she is a PITA when I pick her up. I wouldnt lose the nap completely but tell the babysitter it doesnt need to be done everyday.

yeah, this is what I am going to do. The thing is I spoke with the sitter a few months ago about this and the sitter said "oh no, she needs to nap - that is when I get to focus 100% on the younger ones (she watches my 7.5 month old and my friends 16 month old). I think I need to revisit this with her. I mean, if she is done with her naps, the sitter is going to need to make it work, am I right?
I am fine if she tells miki she needs to play qietly for a while (with a book or even a movie) but the naps should stop, I think

I am fine if she tells miki she needs to play quietly for a while (with a book or even a movie) but the naps should stop, I think
It sounds like the sitter needs the nap. No, but seriously, she needs to work with you. Even if she tries to wean her slowly. Miki will be happier during the day when she is getting more sleep at night.

Re: Is she ready to drop her nap (opinions welcome)
We are going thru something similar. Sophie is 3 and 1/2 but still naps. She is exhausted in the afternoon so I let her nap but try to limit it. But she sometimes won't go to sleep till 930 and then she's up at 630 and winds up exhausted after school at 1 pm - its a vicious cycle. The days I don't nap her she falls asleep on the couch usually around 430 or 5 and is a total beast! So no advice but I'm there with ya!

Re: Is she ready to drop her nap (opinions welcome)
We had the same situation, minus the sitter and I chose to stop napping DS. I couldn't deal with the fight at bedtime. He adjusted and doesn't get as cranky at night, but he still does fall asleep in the car if he is tired, but he has always been like that.
