Is the Fisher Price Rock and Play worth it if...

I do not plan on using it for night time sleeping?

Baby is going in the nursery day one.

I like how portable this thing is in case we go to family's house for an extended period of time. Its nice the baby can nap in it.

But do I need a swing, bouncer, pack n play and the Rock and Play or is there something you can eliminate by purchasing the Rock and Play?

Thanks!

I registered for it, too... and I think it eliminates my need for a co-sleeper.

I'm hoping the baby really CAN sleep in it. I don't know how long the baby will sleep in our room... baby's room is right next door to ours. But, hopefully this is a viable option.

The reviews for it are great on the store site AND in Baby Bargains.

So many people recommended it to me so I purchased it. We will see soon enough if it works for our DC.

It goes to 25 lbs - my one year old isn't even that big Chat Icon

It is GREAT. DD slept in it for 3 months. She did so well because of the elevation, plus when they are little and not rolling, you can still swaddle them and just not use the buckle (it's very deep, they're not going anywhere).

I highly highly recommend it!! Even if you just have it for trips to see family.

I have to say I was in love with this....for the 6 weeks I used it at night in my room (instead of bassinet.) Once she went into the crib though...we haven't used it since! She is either in the bouncer, swing and now the jumperoo. I didn't even bother bringing it downstairs. I would say this is most useful if 1) you're using it for nighttime sleeping, 2) you will travel a lot and need it for baby to sleep in or 3) you don't have a bouncer/infant seat already. It is fairly boring for them too, I would imagine, as opposed to a bouncer or a seat where they have toys and things to look at.
Don't get me wrong....I loved it at night. So close to my bed, easy to just lean over and rock! I will also probably bring it on a trip we are taking in a month or so.
(My DD is 3 months and could easily still fit in it. I think the weight limit is 25 lbs and I have heard of ppl using it until 7-8 months or more!)

Re: Is the Fisher Price Rock and Play worth it if...

it is my #1 MUST HAVE item....I still use it today and DS is 7 months!

DS slept in it for 8 weeks, then we transfered him to his crib. I used it daily when he had a bottle b/c he was easy to "prop" a bottle in so that I can get stuff done. Now that he has teeth, I don't prop it....but he is old enough now, that he holds his own bottles in it. I also put toys on it, so he sits in it for a decent amount of time.

FYI...my DS would not sit in a bouncer or swing, so we probably used it more then most people would!

I love it! It's portable, we just carry him from room to room in it. It's so much cheaper than a bassinet, I got mine for 35 bucks. He's peed and thrown up on it and we just take off the fabric and it's washable. It's also great for those babies with reflux.

DITTO...125% worth it. It's not that expensive either.
It's great - we took it EVERYWHERE we went...DD did not like hanging out in her infant car seat at all which I've seen so many other babies do if they are at someone else's house. So we always had that to sit her in wherever we went.
You don't have to get all those things...eventually down the road you may want the pack-n-play once your LO outgrows the rock and play sleeper. My DD was big and was out of it completely by 4 mos but I still say it was worth it. I had it all and used everything...swing and bouncer too. I liked having something in different parts of the house so I wasn't always moving things around. Swing was in my den...bouncer in kitchen area...the sleeper is what I did move around b/c DD slept in that every night.

Wow, that thing is awesome! I never saw that with DC...I used a regular bassinett. Does it go to the height of the bed? If so, I think I love this thing! And I'm so getting one!

Re: Is the Fisher Price Rock and Play worth it if...

It is sent from heaven above!

even if you are not using it for night time, its a great place for cat naps.. and somewhere comfy for your little one to relax and play while you do things you need to do (dishes, shower, etc)

It is also so portable and lightweight I bring it with me everytime I go to someones house so he has a place to sit or nap.

and finally, if your child ends up having some reflux or something like that it will help him/her sleep better bc of the incline. I didnt plan for him to sleep in it at night but he was having some reflux & spitting up issues and I was so glad I had it as a backup. He slept so soundly in it, and now at almost 4 months we are just making the switch to his crib

it's a newer item in the last year or so....it's amazing - definitely get it. It depends on your bed - my bed is high so I had to lean over a little but my guest room bed it is like at the same level...but it's high enough that you are not leaning over much...it's great.
I hope they will add some things to it now that they know what a popular item it is - I'd love a removable toy bar on it...maybe even a vibration feature. I hope by the time I have a 2nd baby they will update it and come out with something even better. It's pretty plain right now - a little boring. They finally have new prints which is cool.
