my 3 year old has been receiving speech since 18 months, now just for articulation. she just started preschool, before then she was never in a group setting except mommy and me classes.

recently we have been noticing she is constantly 'on the go'. she cant sit still. she LOVES to spin. she will run in circles or skip around the house. she has alot of trouble falling asleep. she is always putting stuff in her mouth, we tell her to stop and turn around again and its back in her mouth.

she is in peoples faces all the time. she has even made kids cry because she gets too close to them (im worried about this as she gets older, she will have trouble making friends)

is this some type of sensory issue? should i have her evaluated or wait it out? i have been googling and i feel like it might be some sort of over stimulation.

I am an advocate of getting it checked out as early as possible, especially if you have something in your gut bothering you and you are noticing it is becoming an issue with other people/children.

If anything, this is what we pay all of our ridiculous school taxes for here on LI ;).

I also initially went to a private psychologist to get their opinion, before involving the school district.

I also would call for evaluation. What does the speech therapist think? Does she do these things with her?

I had my son evaluated for the same reasons. He was just too much and very touchy feely to certain fabrics/people's clothes, would give bear hugs, touch girls hair just did not understand personal space and couldn't help acting out for stimulation. I remember asking one of his therapists and they thought it was a good idea at the time ( age 2 1/2 back then) it has been 2 years later he is still receiving OT for fine motor and sensory but is a lot calmer and understands personal space more I have to say just maturing and his OT therapy helped him tremendously. I would do an evaluation absolutely.

her speech teacher is going to talk to an OT and get her opinion. i just dont want to put her thru another evaluation if this is just normal kid stuff. my dh says to leave her alone, she is just a kid full of energy. but she has these quirks that just dont sit right with me.

she has had 2 psych. evaluations and both said she is not on the spectrum but def. has a couple quirks that the evaluation doesnt pick up on or put her on the spectrum.
