Re: Is this normal b day party related
I have been invited to weekday mornings parties when kids were babies/toddlers. They were more like play dates with cake.
Not when kids are in preschool/elementary because they would be in school.
My older child has been invited to 2 Monday parties (Martin Luther King and President's Day) as well as a party on a Thursday teacher workday.

Re: Is this normal b day party related
I haven't experienced this but my sister was telling me that my niece who is in kindergarten has been invited to a lot of weekday parties and apparently it is becoming more and more common, since parents' weekends are always tied up with different activities. She is actually throwing my niece's bday party next month on a Thursday at 5, a lot of people are actually RSVPing Yes.
ETA now an 11am party would be really tough to attend I would think, unless I were a teacher and off for the summer, a SAHM, or was able to have someone take DC there.

Re: Is this normal b day party related
I think because it is summer vacation it is normal.
ETA: I work, but I have been able to work with other parents and my son rarely misses these parties.

Is this normal b day party related
I used to think this is odd too but I am starting to see the appeal both for guests and hosts. It is fairly common among younger kids in pre-k and/or the stay at home set (which is very common in our area) to have weekday parties. We recently had one for my 2 year old during spring break - although I work part time I arranged my schedule to have the party on her actual birthday- and all but one of her friends could make it (they were brought by stay at home moms and/or their nannies) and it gave the kids something to do during the break!

After school hours yes. It's usually a lot cheaper if you are having it out to do it on a weeknight rather than the weekend.

Re: Is this normal b day party related
DS has been to 2 during the week. Both started at 5 and were for cousins. It was a ginormous pain in the ass to get DS there between juggling child care, cutting out of work early and trying to get to the party (both of which were several towns away) at rush hour. If the parties were for a random pre-k kid in his class, he wouldn't have attended. If the parties were earlier in the day, he wouldn't have attended either.

never been invited to... and our kids wouldn't be able to attend...
We did have one weekday party which was a school day that the kids got out early from school on. They held it across the street from the school and the mom offered to walk the kids across, and walk the back to the afterschool program for any working parents that couldn't make it though..
