Is this normal or a problem? Day care related.
I'm posting this for my sister.
My niece is 16 months old and has been in a licensed in home daycare since she was 5 months old. Overall, my sister is happy with her care there. However, 3 times in the last 4 months she's been called to come and get her DD... not when she's sick or running a fever, but just because she's teething and cranky and "they can't do anything with her." This happened again yesterday, and my sister was absolutely furious. My neice had no fever, wasn't sick whatsoever, but was extremely cranky and wanting to be held. She has molars coming in.
Is this normal for a daycare to call like this? I don't have experience so I'm asking you ladies. My sister, as happy as she is overall with the place, is ready to start looking for something else because she can't keep leaving work.

I'd be frustrated, too, but depending on the terms of the arrangement your niece's "condition" may fall into their section about "not being able to participate in the normal routine" and that's how they'll be able to send her home.
When my DCs were in daycare, they could be sent home for the following reasons:
Fever Unexplained rash 2+ loose or uncontained BMs Inability to partcipate in normal routine (ie needing to be held, extra cranky, too sleepy/tired to play)

Not normal in my opinion. My DS has been in daycare since 8 weeks and was colicy and I know he was difficult in the beginning and they NEVER called me. They knew how to help soothe colicy babies. They called me once cause he seemed not himself one day and cried for 2 hrs and they just wanted to see if he had shots or anythign our of the normal...it ended up beign his teeth but they told me he was better after a nap and never asked me to coem get him.

Not normal IMO. My DDs daycare only calls me to pick her up if she has a fever or diarrhea 2+ times in one day. She went through an extremely fussy period and wasn't herself for a couple of weeks. It was all teething related. they expressed concern to me and detailed things when I'd pick her up, but they never asked me to pick her up. I would be really annoyed if I was paying someone who couldn't care for my child when they were fussy.

Ditto to this. DD was an IMPOSSIBLE newborn- cried pretty much 24/7- but they never called me to come get her- unless she was legit sick. (fever, rash, vomitting, loose stools, etc) If they called me to get her every time they "just couldn't deal" then I'd never be at work. IMO- it is their JOB to deal with cranky or fussy babies. What am I paying you for???
I do recall they called me a few times when she was teething- but just to tell me, hey she is not herself, her hand is in her mouth, she is crying a lot- can we give her the tyelnol you left with us? And I would say, yes of course. And that was it.

Not normal IMO.
My sons have gone through cranky days and I was never contacted (other than like the pp to ask if it was ok to give Tylenol/Motrin).
My boss' daycare sent his son home once for being crabby - which really bugged me since he pays $$$.

DD had to deal with molars coming in at daycare and is the crankiest person ever - whiny, complaining, crying, etc...and not once did they call me to come and get her. They spoke to me about it and dealt with it. They know how to deal with them when they are like that and will not simply send them home "just because."

Re: Is this normal or a problem? Day care related.
When I first tried to put DD in daycare, she was going through serious separation anxiety. The first transition day, the minute DH and I stepped out, his cell rang, and the daycare wanted us to come soothe her. It was nap time and the teacher said, her cries were interuppting other children. Initially, I was like, o ok fine.. I can see that but then when the next day they asked me stay even while the children were up. because DD was crying. One of the teachers made a comment to me that was very unsettling, so I decided not to enroll her there and we have a nanny now.

Re: Is this normal or a problem? Day care related.
Now, I have not used daycare so I really can't speak from experience, but my reaction is kind of mixed---
On the one hand, I agree it's really inconvenient to have to come and pick your kid up if they're not even sick. But on the other hand, if your kid is cranky to the point of needing to be held the whole time... what is becoming of the other kids in the daycare? The ratio is not 1:1, kwim? This is not a nanny or a parent who really can hold the kid all day, they are dealing with a group. So if one kid is completely monopolizing an employee all day, the whole group is really thrown off in terms of attention given.

um, no. Not normal.
Our rules were Fever Loose BMs (2 or more)
Never for crankiness. I mean most kids have separation anxiety too what do you do then? No way. They had floaters to come in and help with one child who may be overly upset. Now if they cried themselves into a fit and CAUSED a fever that may be different but never just because they were cranky.
If you do that all the time, how are THEY going to learn to handle the crankiness? How will your child learn you can't come everytime they are having a bad day in daycare?
Yeah, not a fan (yet another reason in home child care was never even a glimmer of a thought to me).
